  • Master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel, or a related field (or a combination of education and experience).
  • Standardized testing experience and the ability to successfully pass multiple test center certification examinations as prescribed in contracts with various testing companies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The mission of this new Office of Testing Services is to provide high-quality testing and assessment services that observe the National College Testing Association (NCTA) professional testing standards and guidelines in order to successfully meet the growing needs of our students, faculty, administration, and community.

The Director of Testing Services will be responsible for the following as they establish a new Testing Center at the Appalachian State University Hickory campus:
  • Responsible for the daily operation of the Test Center by providing administrative and technical support, test administration, and computer troubleshooting while maintaining a high level of customer service, confidentiality, and test security.
  • Ensure adequate and accessible facilities, equipment, and technology to support programs, services, and students.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Testing Center programs and services consistent with changing client needs and evolving institutional priorities.
  • Coordinates and supervises the administration of national testing programs in which the institution participates.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures for effective and efficient use of testing services.
  • Collaborate with IT staff to assure the proper maintenance, viability, and functioning of technologies needed to administer, report, and monitor testing services. Implement safety and security procedures that protect academic integrity.
  • Collect and analyze customer satisfaction, usage, placement, outcomes assessment, and related data to improve Testing Center services.
  • Manage the collection, security, and accounting of fees and contract revenue collected by the Testing Center.
  • Manage Testing Center budgets while working with the University Program Associate in the reconciliation and approval of the monthly budget and financial data.
  • Manages annual testing calendar.
  • Supervises SHRA employees, including their schedule, evaluations, and all Human Resources employment actions.
