Who is Aztalan Bio?

Aztalan’s story is just beginning, and you can be part of it! ClonBio Group acquired Wisconsin’s largest ethanol plant in 2022 located in the village of Aztalan, just outside Jefferson, WI. The facility will process 40 million bushels of locally grown feed corn per year, turning that into food-grade corn oil, vegetable protein concentrates and isolates for food applications, aquaculture feeds, renewable natural gas, organic fertilizer, ethanol, and dietary fiber for foods, among other things. We are scheduled to start the facility in the fall of 2023 and are currently hiring!

Position Overview

The Plant Manager/Operations Director at Aztalan Bio is responsible for all activities that occur within the manufacturing facility to ensure integration of workflow, budgetary conformance, schedules, and optimum utilization of staff, machines, equipment, and facilities to safely and compliantly meet goals and KPIs. The person in this role will create strategic long-term and short-term operating objectives in the areas of production efficiencies, quality improvement, cost reductions, capital expenditures, plan improvements, and training. The Plant Manager has direct responsibility for leading and developing a team and ensuring that KPIs have met or exceeded goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to the overall operation, including Production Managers, Shift Supervisors, and Maintenance personnel.
  • Lead and build solid and trusting working relationships with plant employees.
  • Work with executive team in the development and execution of strategic plans for operational activity. Implement and manage these strategic plans through strong leadership skills.
  • Drive all company safety policies, practices and procedures to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Establish and direct plant policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and direct overall plant performance for production and quality standards and trigger corrective action whenever necessary.
  • Be confident and knowledgeable of all areas of operations including grain handling, main process, yeast prop, fermentation, distillation, evaporation, centrifuges, dryer, and co-products.
  • Oversee the quality of and status of lab samples and tests as required by the lab and production coordinator. Have the ability to understand and interpret lab test results to advise on appropriate action when required.
  • Oversee the quality of the ethanol being produced and stored on site.
  • Oversee the quality of co-products such as wet cake, dry distiller’s grains, and syrup.
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets.
  • Active hands-on involvement and daily presence within the facility.
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to product optimal results.
  • Implement and drive cross-training efforts within the production team.
  • Monitor operations for efficiency and safety ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are met/followed.
  • Responsible for process improvement and problem-solving to lower cost and improve quality.
  • Conduct regular, timely reviews and yearly performance reviews for all direct reports and ensure timely review of hourly personnel.
  • Actively participate and drive continuous improvement activities to ensure maximum results in reducing costs.
  • Build and maintain a culture of mutual respect, professionalism and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field.
  • 8 years experience in the operation of an ethanol plant, chemical plant or refinery.
  • Experience in a management/supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of the ethanol production process and technology, or the ability to quickly obtain such knowledge.
  • Working experience with industries using process equipment, process control and SCADA
  • Demonstrated leadership and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time and priorities, work independently and objectively, and successfully interacting with individuals and groups.
  • Concern for product and process quality and support of safety plans.
  • Working knowledge of computers including MS Office, and Excel.
