This position provides leadership and direction for Events & Hospitality operations, working collaboratively with departments within and beyond Auxiliary Enterprises to ensure the delivery of a dynamic array of products and services seamlessly integrated into complete event experiences. The position directly oversees high profile campus events for the Office of the President, working under the guidance of the Chief of Staff to organize, prepare, and implement Presidential and cabinet-level events. The Director assists the Associate Executive Director with the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives to position UMaine as a premier event destination known for delivering exemplary customer service while supporting a broad spectrum of in-person, virtual, and hybrid events.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree, or the equivalent in education and experience, and 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • Thorough knowledge of event management principles and practices and demonstrated success planning and producing meetings and events of a wide range of types and sizes, including high profile executive meetings and large-scale, multi-day events.
  • Experience and skill in operational management, budgeting, and strategic planning. Experience anticipating and identifying problems and implementing immediate corrective action.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills are essential for dealing effectively with all segments of the UMaine and UMM communities.
  • Supervisory experience and effective at leading, motivating, and mentoring staff, and building and inspiring collaborative teams.
  • Independent judgment for organizing resources, analyzing and solving problems, establishing priorities, and making decisions. Professionalism and experience following specified protocols and exercising discretion.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience managing events in multi-purpose and/or special event facilities.
  • Experience managing events for higher education.
