Position Summary:
The Director of Clinical Services is responsible, in collaboration with the Clinical Director, for the direction and leadership of clinical operations, patient workflow, partnership coordination, and clinical staff and personnel activities for New York Proton Center (NYPC). The person in this role will be responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the infrastructure for safe, efficient and patient centered clinical workflow, directing the day-to-day clinical operations. The Director of Clinical Services works closely with a variety of stakeholders, including the physician team, intake, IT, and revenue cycle management, Coordinates the daily activities of patient care services provided by NYPC and care across the clinical partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities:
In accordance with the strategic operations plan of the New York Proton Center, the Director of Clinical Services will promote and implement programming which facilitates organizational growth by:

  • Provide leadership to the radiation therapy staff, operation of radiation therapy and imaging equipment and technical aspects of treatment, simulation and imaging. This includes proton treatment systems and multiple imaging platforms (CT, MR, PET)
  • Provide leadership to the clinical and PACU nursing staff
  • Develop clinical workflow policies and procedures for efficient patient intake through treatment delivery and follow up
  • Oversee and evaluate quality management and performance improvement programs across all clinical and administrative disciplines and ensures related policies and procedures are updated as needed, implemented, and monitored for compliance
  • Continually assess all services, identify problems, utilize data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solution
  • Design and implement efficient and secure transfer of patient records and images necessary for patient treatment delivery
  • Collaborate with other Departments to ensure all treatment and ancillary service charge codes, treatment documentation, labs, images all import/export correctly into supporting partner systems
  • Facilitate communication, coordination and collaboration among disciplines regarding planning and provision of patient care, including working closely with the NYPC leadership and clinical supervisors and managers for all clinical and technical aspects of proton therapy
  • Develop reports from Aria for evaluation of treatment efficiency and NYPC adherence to regulatory and budget requirements
  • Assign workload and support development and implementation of programs, quality assurance, patient safety, regulatory and compliance oversight, and technology assessment
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies that support the professional development model and encourage a culture of engaged employee empowerment, a patient centric mission, and teamwork among staff
  • Evaluate the work performance and competency of direct reports. This includes ongoing informal feedback/counseling/support and completion of annual performance reviews
  • Remain current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Proton Therapy best practices and programs
  • Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned

Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree or greater in nursing or graduate of JCERT accredited Radiation Therapy program preferred.
Master's Degree in health care administration, management or nursing, if applicable, preferred.
License and Certification:
Licenses, registrations and certifications as required by State of New York based on clinical background.
Experience:
Minimum of five years of progressive health care management experience, required
Previous clinical experience in radiation therapy required, with clinical or administrative experience in proton therapy preferred
Strong knowledge of health care delivery systems, managed care, and patient care, required
Strong analytical skills and excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, required

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
