What Makes This Position Great?

The Director Marketing Data Analytics & Insights is a newly created role, allowing a proven, high-impact professional to shape the position, and the entire national Sila Services organization, through their expertise and impact. This leader will be responsible for working across the Sila Services organization to rapidly improve the quality and insights provided by our data, identify new sources of value-added information and insight we need to develop, and translate the key “So Whats” from those insights into actions that are can be rapidly adopted by many, or all, of our dozens of companies.

The Director will focus on Marketing Data & Analytics, however we expect the right leader to expand their role, including building an Insights Team over time, to own the capture, analysis and translation of data into actions across multiple functions/teams within Sila Services. The Director will have a key role in developing and setting our overall strategy, both around data capture/analytics and how insights shape company strategy in full. At the same time, they will be a hands-on doer/executer of the foundational work required to develop insights, build consensus, and create initiatives that have the enthusiastic support of all levels of the organization. While they will be tasked with building a team over time and with demonstrable ROI, initially this new role will be a senior-level individual contributor and a hands-on partner for operating and marketing leaders in executing on the opportunities they unlock.

This is an ideal role for someone who thrives in bringing order to chaos and complexity in a fast-paced environment. As a high growth, private equity-backed platform company in rapid acquisition mode, Sila Services has an opportunity for our data quality, insights and fact-driven planning to catch up with the tremendous pace of our company growth—we want you to lead the building of a core platform capability that allows us to scale at an accelerating pace in years to come. You’ll be fully empowerment to determine how to make us better, and then execute on that vision, and view the up-front heavy lifting/data cleanup as fun and rewarding.

There are rare opportunities for world-class data analytics and insight leaders to create a senior leadership role that directly drives the trajectory of a high growth private equity-backed industry leader—this is one of those roles! You will have a true seat at the leadership table to shape the Data Insights and Analytics role/strategy AND the overall direction of an industry-leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the capture, analysis and interpretation of all Sila Services Sales, Marketing and Operations-related data. Identify gaps in data capture, consistency and quality and determine processes, systems, training and leadership efforts required to close those gaps. Implement changes required to ensure that Sila Services has the best, most accurate and most important data regarding our Marketing efforts/results (e.g., ROAS).
  • Translate data into real insights. Determine the “So Whats” of the data through thoughtful, robust analytics. Communicate the key takeaways to the broader leadership team as part of strategy development and execution planning.
  • Develop action plans and strategies to translate the Insights into changes to how Sila Services works, such that we materially and rapidly improve across all areas of the company’s performance. As a starting point, develop action plans and initiatives that allow us to significantly improve our marketing segmentation and targeting, efficiency and effectiveness of our lead generation/advertising spend (improve ROAS performance)
  • Work with other leaders to evolve and improve our KPI reporting and scorecards to better enable data-driven, real-time decision making around all things Marketing
  • Determine where and how to reach untapped segments of potential talent and customers. Develop and action plan against key target profiles in collaboration with other top leaders
  • Position yourself, and Sila Services overall, at the forefront of digital marketing and analytics knowledge and application. Keep the company and team on the cutting edge of knowledge regarding trends and opportunities, while ensuring a laser-like focus on implementing only those capabilities that have the greatest ROI for Sila Services and are appropriate for our team to execute. Maximize the team’s focus on the highest-value activities and de-prioritize information and activities that represent lower priorities/distractions for Sila Services
  • Ensure the timely communication of metrics, insight and expected/required actions based upon that data. Help the team effectively move from data to insights to actions and get results
  • Work with Sila Services executive leaders, business unit general managers, and functional peers to create a clear, fully understood calendar of activities and analytical efforts. Inform, educate, and drive the team to action while also eliminating any non-value-added activities or data capture efforts
  • Work with the entire Sila Services team in evaluating potential M&A candidate companies, including performing due diligence and developing investment thesis plans and roadmaps as appropriate
  • Support the VP of Marketing with the targeted data, insights and specific recommendations necessary to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Sila Services’s marketing function
  • Collaborate with other key leaders in Sales, Operations, HR, Finance, Procurement, Safety and Technology to, over time, leverage analytics and insights across all areas of Sila Services

Qualifications/Skills

  • Strong communication skills are a must. A key enabler of success is to quickly build awareness and appreciation for the value of analytics and insights, so being able to get the team onboard and excited about the impact will be essential for success
  • Ability to communicate complex analytics in a clear and actionable manner. Confident in helping leaders understand what they must know, while focusing them more on the takeaways and actions required rather than the intricacies of the analytics
  • 10+ years of proven expertise in leading (ideally creating) a high-performance, results-oriented Data Analytics and Insights function. Must be able to highlight examples of translating information into successful, high-impact actions and results vs. information for its own sake
  • Experience with advanced analytical techniques and tools such as regression analysis, predictive modeling, marketing forecasting, response prediction, ROAS measurement and improvement planning, consumer profiling, and marketing mix modeling
  • A level of humble confidence and professionalism that exemplifies an ability to collaboratively work with key peers without stepping on toes. With a newly created senior team role, the Director must have the experience and style to engage key stakeholders—notably the VP of Marketing and Operating EVPs/RVPs/GMs—to build a mutually-beneficial, high output relationship without duplicating efforts or causing any confusion on roles and responsibilities. Must have the experience to “go with the flow” and navigate both the fun, and the occasionally challenging team interactions, that come with building a new capability in a fast-moving organization
  • Comfort/confidence with relational databases and SQL. Proficiency in tools such as R, Matlab, SAS, web analytics, data warehouse/data cube design, and modeling – with experience implementing a business intelligence platform preferred
  • An ability to work with/leverage data from key Sila Services technology platforms: ServiceTitan and Sage Intacct. Existing knowledge of these specific systems is highly attractive, but not essential. The focus is on having expertise in how to capture, manage and extract data from similar core platforms and incorporate that data into a broader Analytics & Insights efforts
  • A strong, actionable network of relationships with 3rd party service providers and resources, with confidence in assessing appropriate Make vs. Buy tradeoffs. A clear ability to outsource all non-core capabilities while defining a clear strategy and roadmap to build any Must-Own capabilities within Sila Services
  • A demonstrable doer, not a delegator/manager. At the start the Analytics function will be an individual contributor role, so the Director must be confident with, and excited by doing hands-on analytical and implementation work. Success will create the opportunity to begin building out a broader team in Year 2 and beyond
  • A passion for curiosity, empirical research, asking and answering difficult questions, and finding the non-obvious moments of “Aha!” in data that others do not naturally see
  • Executive level research, oral and written communication skills
  • Fun, collegial and engaging with colleagues from the C-suite to the front line, customers, suppliers and other third parties. A natural comfort with/ability to make our team more unified, collaborative and fun

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, ideally with a quantitative focus (statistics, engineering, finance, marketing analytics, etc). A graduate-level degree in a related field/area of study is highly attractive, however not required for this role as demonstrated experience driving change is considered a top priority
  • 10-15+ years of professional experience in similar/related roles, including experience building a high-performing team/function. 7-10+ years of managerial experience in a related role/function
  • Demonstrable experience in using data analytics and insights to develop and implement significant change in an organization with proven results. Experiences that highlight clear outcomes orientation, rather than just activity/actions, will be viewed most favorably
