The Director of Abortion Care supports the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director in the design, implementation and optimization of standards and initiatives within the PPCW abortion program to ensure high quality, efficient, patient-centered care and overall success.

Compensation: $93,600 - 111,862 annually

Schedule: Full-time (40 hours) Monday - Friday. Employees may be requested or required to occasionally work other days (including weekends), hours and locations to meet operational needs.

Position Details: This is a non-represented, salaried (exempt) position. PPCW complies with all Federal and State Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, or Certified Nurse Midwife licensed in Oregon (and Washington if requested)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in clinical practice
  • Experience managing clinical quality and medical program development
  • Experience training and evaluating staff
  • Strong background in direct patient care in reproductive health including abortion care
  • Experience implementing knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, implicit bias, and institutional racism
  • Professional, positive attitude with proven ability to contribute to highly functioning work teams
  • Ability to obtain CPR/BLS and ACLS certification as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing in-clinic abortions

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Medical Director and Associate Medical Director in the standardization of the PPCW abortion program across health centers
  • Provides oversight and optimization of the aspiration program
  • Develops and implements strategic training plan for the aspiration program to ensure appropriate, timely, and geographically equitable access to services across the affiliate
  • Defines metrics and builds dashboards to ensure data driven quality improvement
  • Responsible for ongoing support and evaluation of RNs and clinicians to ensure safe and patient-centered services

Leadership:

  • Participates in strategic planning, goal setting, budget process, and coordination of services for the Department.
  • Centers equity, anti-racism, and de-stigmatization within abortion care.
  • Provides relevant and timely consultation to other PPCW departments on medical issues and questions; provides training and presentations as requested.
  • Facilitates and supports PPCW research programs related to abortion care.
  • Serves as a PPCW medical liaison with outside agencies.
  • Attends Planned Parenthood national and regional medical conferences, as appropriate.
  • Assists with accreditation preparation.
  • Directly supervises one or more staff, including designated contract providers.
  • Serves as a communication link between clinical staff, the Associate Medical Director, Medical Director, and the VP of Patient Services.

Project Management:

  • Maintains PPCW’s link with learning institutions in service areas. In collaboration with health center managers, coordinates training opportunities for learners in abortion care (e.g., students, residents, fellows).
  • In conjunction with health center managers and the People and Culture department, participates in the active recruitment and retention of staff in abortion services.
  • In coordination with PPCW Marketing staff, participates in press conferences, phone, and radio interviews regarding medical issues and implementation of new services.
  • Participates in updating and maintaining a reference manual listing of medical consultants who are willing to care for clients referred from the PPCW health centers.
  • Collaborates with appropriate staff to ensure accuracy of medical information on PPCW website.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compliance & Quality Management

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and provision of ongoing monitoring and reporting of quality management activities throughout abortion services with a focus on in-clinic surgical abortion services.
  • Assists with data-driven quality reporting, including analysis for program specific audits and reports.
  • Communicates data and facilitates strategic collaboration among Health Center Managers to optimize clinical and health center performance related to the abortion program.
  • In partnership with other team members, implements improvements to clinical practice, policies, procedures, workflows, and documentation based on results of audits and other quality assessment tools available.
  • Assists the Associate Medical Director and Medical Director in the implementation of abortion protocols.
  • Assures that all abortion-related occurrence reports are filed and complete in a timely manner and, in collaboration with the Associate Medical Director and Medical Director, assures appropriate corrective action as needed.

Training and Staff Development:

  • In collaboration with the Medical Director, ensures appropriate orientation and training of abortion providers.
  • In collaboration with the Medical Director, develops and implements an internal in-clinic abortion training program for advanced practice clinicians to provide early pregnancy management.
  • Acts as a resource and provides consult, technical assistance, and training for abortion health center staff as needed.
  • Provides leadership, oversight and direction to the abortion care training of non-licensed staff.
  • Develops and implements training and improvements to clinical practice based on audit results and other available quality assessment tools.
  • Provides EHR clinical perspective and consult while assisting with optimizations and upgrades as necessary.
  • Participates in the performance evaluations of licensed staff.
  • Coordinates with the Medical Director for special skills evaluations of licensed staff.
  • Coordinates and facilitates specialty clinician meetings for abortion care.
  • Provides supervision and back up support of the 24-hour emergency call program
