Our Client is a global leader in hydrogen fuel cell technology that is looking to revolutionize the commercial vehicle industry and build an ecosystem that delivers zero emissions. As a result of their rapid growth and continued innovation, they are looking to appoint a Director of Fuel Cell Stacks & Components to be responsible for both engineering leadership and managerial responsibilities of fuel cell stack development and validation.

The successful candidate will work closely with other senior stakeholders and manage a cross-functional team across Illinois and Michigan managing the product development lifecycle, contributing to the technology roadmap, continuous product improvement, and advocating for engineering best practices.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the team for the design and development of the PEM fuel cell stacks and/or stack components such as unit cell, end plate, MEA, compression hardware, housing, sealing, manifolds, etc.
  • Prioritize resources to achieve corporate milestones.
  • Develop and execute fuel cell stack durability methodology and test plan.
  • Plan and execute stack systems engineering: APQP, DFSS, FMEA, DVP&R, 8D problem solving, requirement management, change management, etc.
  • Interface with the manufacturing team for production launch and scale-up, with fuel cell stack component suppliers, and with internal and external customers of fuel cell stacks.
  • Be responsible for design compliance with engineering best practices, global design standards, and regulations of fuel cell mobility applications.
  • Provide and manage annual plans & budgets.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to identify, develop, and execute projects.
  • Hire and train stack and component engineering staff.
  • Define fuel cell stack product and technology roadmap and continuous product improvement plan.
  • Define stack development processes.

Skills and Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or other related engineering fields
  • 10 years of experience with engineering team management
  • 5 years of experience with development & validation of water-cooled and high-power (>50kW) PEM fuel cell stacks and components
  • Comfortable with or able to adapt to a fast-paced start-up working environment, thriving under the pressure of project schedule and technical/non-technical challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate differences of opinions and facilitate discussion as needed with a collaborative multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proven skills in planning & budgeting, technical & non-technical problem solving, decision making, project management, and organizational management.
  • Knowledge of automotive processes and tools (APQP, DFSS, FMEA, DVP&R, 8D problem solving, requirement management, change management, etc.)
  • Experience with fuel cell-powered electric vehicles and other applications is preferred.
  • Occasional Travel required.

Location: Bolingbrook, Greater Chicago, Illinois + Some Travel

Salary: $180,000 - $200,000 P/A – Negotiable on Experience
