Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is one of the largest and most advanced behavioral healthcare organizations in the country. Nestled near the beaches between the Pacific Coast and Santa Ynez mountains, Devereux California is a therapeutic behavioral health treatment facility offering residential services, community living, day programs, and clinical services for adults with multiple diagnoses, including autistic spectrum disorders, emotional and/or behavioral differences, intellectual and developmental disabilities, dementia and other cognitive disorders. Located in Santa Barbara, CA, this position is responsible for ensuring the safety of our individuals, while supporting them with self-help skills designed to encourage independence.

Responsibilities of the Direct Support Professional II include, but are not limited to:

  • Utilizing positive reinforcement and antecedent manipulation to increase appropriate behaviors
  • Assisting and supporting in the planning, implementation, and documentation of programs designed to meet the social, emotional, physical, and personal needs of our individuals
  • Assisting, instructing, and supporting our individuals with daily living activities, including cooking, cleaning, budgeting, bill pay, grocery shopping, and personal hygiene
  • Accompanying our individuals on community outings, medical appointments, and other activities, as directed
  • Must be willing to work with individuals who may exhibit challenging and/or aggressive behaviors
  • Must have comfort assisting with hygiene care

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree in relevant field preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • One weekend shift per week required
  • At least One (1) year of experience providing direct care to adults with developmental disabilities required

Must have or be willing to obtain upon hire:

  • Direct Support Professional Year 1 Certification by the State of California
  • Direct Support Professional Year 2 Certification by the State of California
  • Registered Behavioral Technician Certification by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board

The IDEAL candidate will...

Be empathetic, a team player, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, understand the theories of behavior management, utilize positive reinforcement, and represent yourself as a positive role model. Additionally, you must be able to successfully pass required clearances, complete 40+ hours of paid new hire trainings, and have a strong passion for supporting individuals with special needs.

Physical Requirements:

Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing required. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required when applying physical intervention techniques in excess of 100 lbs or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Occasional driving of Devereux vehicles for business purposes. Ability to master Safe and Positive Approach trainings.
