As a Direct Care Worker, you will be responsible for providing care and support to individuals who require assistance with their daily living activities due to physical or mental disabilities. You will be required to provide assistance with personal hygiene, feeding, medication management, and any other activities necessary to improve the quality of life of the individuals you are working with.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Assist individuals with eating, including preparing meals, feeding, and providing support during meal times.
  • Administer medication according to the prescribed dosage and instructions.
  • Monitor individuals for any changes in health or behavior and report any concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to individuals, including engaging in conversation and recreational activities.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for individuals, including housekeeping and laundry duties.
  • Complete documentation related to the care provided, including daily progress notes, medication logs, and incident reports.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a Direct Care Worker training program or certification preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals with physical or mental disabilities preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

Working Conditions: Direct Care Workers may work in a variety of settings, including group homes, nursing homes, and private residences. The work can be physically demanding, requiring lifting and assisting with mobility. Depending on the setting, Direct Care Workers may be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The work can also be emotionally challenging, as individuals may have complex needs and require a high level of support and care.
