Cumberland Hospital for Children & Adolescents is seeking a Clinical Dietician/Dietetics as part of the Diabetes Advisory Committee and Diabetes Treatment Team to provide appropriate care for the nutritional needs of children and adolescents with chronic illnesses.

Cumberland Hospital is a unique acute care, inpatient specialty hospital with 110 licensed beds, including a Residential Treatment Center. We treat patients, ages 2-22 who chronic illnesses, brain injuries and neurobehavioral disorders with co-behavioral issues. Our 100 acre riverfront campus is located in beautiful New Kent, VA, a short commute from both Richmond and Williamsburg.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Knowledge & expertise in in nutritional status of child growth, development and behavioral issues as they affect nutritional intake.
  • Knowledge & expertise in nutritional requirement of individuals with various chronic illnesses and special nutritional needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Initiate and complete nutritional screening and assessments of all assigned patients admitted to the hospital.
  • Determines appropriateness of tube feeding and/or diet order and provides appropriate recommendations to the medical staff for adjustments to meet patient needs.
  • Interprets, adjusts and checks accuracy of diet orders for kitchen staff so that appropriate food items are prepared.
  • Provides nutritional education and counseling to all patients and families.
  • Provides services to residential units on a consult basis
  • Participates in the discharge planning/meeting of patients with specific nutritional concerns and goals
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, attending treatment team meetings and in-service training.

Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Dietitian/Dietetics or Food and Nutrition

Licensure: Registered Dietitian/Dietician, maintain CPI certification bi-annually, CPR (BLS provider annually), First Aid Certifications (every two years)

Physical Requirements: Capable of CPI non-violent restraint and intervention

Capable of providing CPR and First Aid
