Overview:

Reporting to the AVP of Grants, the Director of Grants Development keeps up to date on current and emerging health care business developments and public health research in order to identify grant opportunities that are relevant to AltaMed; researches, reviews, and analyzes foundation, corporate and government grant opportunities to strategically evaluate the fit of each opportunity with AltaMed’s organizational objectives; acquires and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of AltaMed’s current potential programs, the impact of these programs, and the needs of people and constituents served by AltaMed. This position supervises the grant writers and assigns projects/proposals, setting project timelines, ensuring deadlines are met and monitoring and evaluating staff performance.


Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day aspects of grant seeking, with an emphasis on ensuring that the grants development process is aligned with and directly supports strategic organizational priorities and future plans of AltaMed.
  • Serves as consultant for senior leadership on issues that can be addressed or resolved through grant funds, community relationships, or other resources, such as human capital and expertise.
  • Maintain grants submission record of proposals submitted, including maintaining grant files.
  • Maintain a database and calendar of all prospective funders, including deadlines for proposal submissions and reports.
  • Maintain records and tracks all requests to ensure that appropriate follow-up is conducted.
  • Participates in planning, compiling, writing, reviewing and editing proposals, letters and other documentation necessary to apply for grants.
  • Collaborates with program staff and senior leadership to identify the best use of grant funds to support AltaMed business and strategic goals and initiatives
  • Ensures that proposals are approved by program staff and senior management
  • Collaborates with Grants Management staff to write and/or assist in writing reports to funders
  • Supervises freelance grant writers contracted to prepare proposal submissions or funder reports
  • Writes other fundraising and communication materials as requested.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5 years progressive experience in grants development.
  • Combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education/experience.
  • Proven track record of cultivating strong, long-term donor relationships.
