Alter Domus has an excting job opportunity to join our Data & Analytics Team as a Database Administrator. This role can be based in any of our North America or EMEA. We can also cater for remote work within these locations.

This key role is part of the newly formed Alter Domus Data & Analytics team. This is a newly formed team that will build data-driven applications and products with a vision to be the market leader in providing insights to investors in the alternative investments arena, including private equity, private debt and commercial real estate. The team has deep expertise in building billion dollars plus businesses and is poised for exponential growth. You will work with a proven team with a diverse background from tech, consulting, data science, and financial services who have a deep understanding of what it takes to build scalable software and successful products and businesses.


Role of technology

Current leadership has invested heavily in technology to enable growth. Technology is part and parcel of the products we are building and is involved in a leading role in the early stage of the product development life cycle. We are not tied to a specific technology stack or framework. Our team has sufficient autonomy to create our own path, either building directly, working with partners or 3rd party tools. We want to use the right tool for the right job. There has been significant investment in building a team that can handle large, disparate datasets with a focus on automation using AI/ML. We want to build the right thing and build it well.

Your Role

Your primary goal would be to manage production databases for both newly built acquired applications. The individual with work with the head of tech, platform, product, and data engineering teams to help identify, resolve all relational database issues. They will also work with the data engineering team for integrating relational data into our data lake. Advise on migrations and cost cutting techniques.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide guidance and support working with the 24x7 database administration team for all SQL Server production databases, services, and infrastructure, both in house and cloud resident. The team also supports development and quality testing environments as needed.
  • Conduct systematic performance tuning (i.e., server, database and query performance tuning, database-related component tuning, and product-specific database request tuning).
  • Assist in development, efficiency improvements and implementation of database policies and procedures for data security and integrity. Maintain environment metadata reporting frameworks and identify trends within the environment to further increase efficiency.
  • Provide architectural review and recommendations for new processes, applications and products requiring database integration and/or ETL. Drive the team to provide appropriate solutions, not simple short-term fixes to escalated issues.
  • Maintain an SRE mindset and solve problems through Powershell scripting and automating operational processes
  • Work through CICD orchestration in Azure DevOps to deploy Powershell and TSQL code into production
  • Participate in Scrum ceremonies including weekly sprints and daily standups


What We’ll Want You To Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline, or equivalent experience required.
  • 8+ years database experience
  • Proven extensive experience with MS SQL Server and a passion to learn required.
  • working experience managing and automating SQL Server with Powershell.
  • A solid understanding of data warehousing and strategy
  • Strong decision-making skills, take charge personality, and the ability to drive a plan to completion.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required by business priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and customer service.
  • Advanced analytical and creative skills demonstrate resourcefulness in problem solving and optimization of design.
  • Ability to communicate information and issues clearly and succinctly with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Self-manage work and complete systems and database related projects independently, on a team, and while leading a team.


Nice to have

  • Knowledge of SOC (1 and 2) frameworks
  • Postgresql MySql
  • Non-relational databases (Document store, columnar store, key value, graph database)
  • Data lake and data lake house archticture
  • Analytical tooling such as Databricks or Snowflake
  • A good understanding of cloud technology especially when it comes to DB administration tasks on both on prem, and cloud.
