    SUMMARY: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible people.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Instructs students in basic and advanced culinary skills. Develops lessons, teaches students, and evaluates students based on culinary standards Supervises and manages Culinary Arts students in all aspects of restaurant and catering services. Maintains safety and sanitation standards aligned to local and state standards. Participates in catering jobs, which may involve after school hours.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises classroom and students and Educational Technician and volunteers.
    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum of a two-year degree in culinary arts or related field. Five years demonstrated experience in professional culinary position. Can be certified for a State of Maine teaching certificate endorsement #891. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Teaching Certificate and endorsements.
    FOUNDATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on districts and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 25 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Under the direction of authorized administrators shall:
    • Teach knowledge and skills in culinary arts, including food preparation, food production, sanitation, nutrition, culinary skills, and career opportunities, to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of program study and program professional standards.
    • Provide instruction by which pupils develop knowledge of supplies and equipment used in the culinary arts field.
    • Demonstrate techniques in activities such as baking, range, inventory, supplies, pricing, menu planning, and safety and sanitation issues that arise in the restaurant business.
    • Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
    • Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
    • Instruct pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
    • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive, safe and positive classroom environment.
    • Identify pupil's needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
    • Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
    • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
    • Maintain professional competence through in-service education.
    • Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
    • Work cooperatively with all aspects of the school administrative team/faculty and citizens to insure the highest quality of educational programs.
    • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or designee.
