The DRC is seeking out instructors to provide instruction in the fall and moving at the Hubbard Art Center. The Center has a fully equipped professional grade demonstration kitchen. The DRC is interested in all Culinary Instructors but of particular interest right now are youth instructors able to teach during the day. The classes are typically about 2-2.5 hours and there is set up before and clean up after. This position would range roughly from 2-16 hours per week depending on schedule. The cuisines for the classes that need staffing are Latin, Italian, Southern American(Louisiana), sushi, plant-based and some sweet treats.

Position Summary:
Responsible for organizing and instructing designated DRC culinary programs. Applicants must be confident, have good communication skills, dependable, and detail-oriented. Teaching and/or culinary background is preferred and applicant must be comfortable engaging and instructing kids and adults of all ages. Varied shifts available including daytime, evening and weekends.
Qualifications:
Responsible, energetic, up-beat person with a genuine interest in the promotion of a community teaching kitchen. Passion and high level of comfort with cooking and baking. Formal culinary education or equivalent experience a plus. Must enjoy working and directing people and be able to host, lead and teach hands-on culinary classes for all ages. Ability to manage time effectively, take initiative, communicate and be organized. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Must be friendly and outgoing, creating an excellent and consistent client experience to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Teach clients about food and various culinary skills, tips and tricks related to class recipes and ingredients.
  • Engage and teach clients about cooking skills and more as related to event recipes and ingredients.
  • Create a controlled, safe, clean, and friendly environment for all students.
  • Prepare for all classes. (purchase and set-up ingredients, review teaching materials, etc.)
  • Ability to take initiative and accomplish tasks without direct supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and management.
  • Ability to control a room/class of 15+ students - both kids and adults.
  • Knowledge of culinary techniques, nutritional concepts and healthy eating.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Conduct proper preparation prior to class to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Ensure proper supplies are ready prior to the beginning of a each class.
  • Arrive to class at least 15 minutes early for set up.
  • Ensure class area is clean after class is complete.
  • Help to advertise class or others by word of mouth to friends, neighbors, church groups, scouts and help to distribute fliers to your classes when available.
  • Communicate with Program Coordinator on any concerns or needs.
  • Maintain program administrative duties with proper documentation of classes.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1-2 years personal or professional experience teaching others.
  • Formal culinary education or equivalent experience a plus.
  • Passion and high level of comfort with cooking and baking.

Special Requirements:
  • Need to have the ability to see and hear, sit, stoop, bend and move about.
  • Must possess an audible voice for communication.
  • Ability to lift light equipment.
