Job Description:

CT technologist will be responsible to perform diagnostic CT imaging in ER CT environment. Will likely work varying shifts but we will schedule the same shift a week at a time.

Shift: 2p-10p

Weekend: Rotating (every fifth)

Holiday: Yes

Equipment: Cannon/Toshiba experience preferred

EMR: Cerner

Required Certifications: ARRT, CT Registered, current BLS certificate

Scrub color: Caribbean Blue

Summary

CT technologist functions as a healthcare provider who, working under the delegated authority of the supervising physician, serves as a medical imaging professional providing clinically relevant information to assist the physician with the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The CT technologist role and responsibilities include providing diagnostic medical CT imaging services and its various clinical specialties. The CT technologist activities are performed consistent with their education and training, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures and applicable professional standards.

Entry Requirements

  • Completion of an AMA approved course curriculum in Radiologic Technology, either in a hospital or college based school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Must have passed the examination in the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and remain in good standing with ARRT CE requirements. One (1) year prior CT experience. New hire CT technologists who are Non-registered are required to sit for CT registry boards within 2 years of MHC CT hire date.
  • BCLS (Maintained bi-annual)

ORGANIZATION

Receives functional supervision from the Coordinator for CT and Radiologist Modality Chief. Reports to the Managers or Director of Radiology.

SPECIFIC DUTUES

  • Technologist will perform CT exams and procedures as well as CT vascular exams.
  • Acknowledges that safety is a self-responsibility. Knows the physical requirements of the job and work within those guidelines. Performs job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. Plans actions to promote safety. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to Hospital procedure.
  • Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patient. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress and gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.
  • Cooperates with all department and hospital personnel and Medical Staff in a positive and professional manner, maintaining ethical relationships. Maintains a positive and loyal attitude towards employer.
  • Must demonstrate supervisory and leadership qualities in order to triage patients and organize workload without direct supervision.
  • Must be exacting in recording the required patient information on department forms and CT images.
  • Must be able to act quickly and decisively in emergency situations and deviate from routine procedures when specific patient conditions require.
  • Is trained properly in starting IV’s on patients, is familiar with department policy on use of existing IV’s in patients and other injectable devices. Knowledge of Med Rad Injector protocols.
  • Maintains positive and professional atmosphere for patients. Shows respect to co-workers, physicians, patients, visitors, and others in performing job duties and follows customer service guidelines/commitment to coworker’s principles.
  • Able to perform Quality, Diagnostic CT Scans: Knowledge of cross section anatomy, knowledge of CT scanner protocols. Knowledge of CT scanner functions: is able to properly select technical factors for efficiency performing scans.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and care in performing RadNet and PACS functions. Able to obtain and document patients medical and allergy history in RadNet. Responsible for proficient CT image transfer and RadNet exam completing functions.
  • Will follow CT protocols set by Radiologists for each exam. Assists Radiologist in sterile procedures when necessary. Follows CT protocols; following CT Protocol book; following CT Protocol sheets; Reading/implementing CT Protocol changes.
  • Follows policy regarding preparation and/or administration of contrast media when indicated, including GFR policy and Contrast Allergy policy. Maintains knowledge of technologist role when responding to contrast allergies and reactions.
  • Maintain neat, orderly, contamination free exam room. Work Ethic: Actively monitors work list/takes initiative to start exams, stocking/room prep.
  • Is able to “trouble shoot” for aiding maintenance and uses good judgment as to when services are needed.
  • May be able and willing to instruct “training technologists”, students, and ancillary personnel on CT procedures.
  • Responsible for smooth flow of schedule, patient preparation, and quality control of CT scans. Cooperates with all other department personnel for smooth patient flow.
  • Actively promotes and effectively utilizes job related technology, process change and policy (PowerChart, GroupWise).
  • Maintains professional appearance by adhering to Dress Policy of the hospital and Radiology Department.
  • Adheres to prescribed standards for radiation safety. Understands and adheres to ALARA pledge and Image Gently pledge for pediatric imaging. Maintains understanding of CT technologist role in patient advocacy including screening women of within childbearing years prior to CT imaging.
  • Handles equipment in responsible, professional manner.
  • Adheres to patient confidentiality code.
  • Maintains up-to-date, current CPR certification and is compliant with CE credits per ARRT requirements.
  • Commitment to professional growth and lifelong learning (e.g., continuing medical education in the specialty area(s) performed, higher education, staff training, etc.).
  • May work off shifts, weekends and be responsible for on-call responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Type: Contract

Salary: $70.00 - $75.00 per hour
