Summary of Work

The individual in this newly created Criminal/Narcotics Agent I position is responsible for conducting criminal and narcotic investigations and obtaining intelligence information which includes conducting interviews and surveillance, working with confidential informants and all criminal justice agencies, operating specialized equipment, gathering and maintaining evidence, and working in an undercover capacity. This individual is also responsible for serving on a statewide task force and providing law enforcement training to officers throughout the state. The Criminal/Narcotics Agent is affiliated with tribal enforcement and will be located in Carson, ND. The Agent will be able to live in the surrounding area to Carson, to include Bismarck/Mandan at the MANTF. For the position located in Stanley, the agent will be able to live in the surrounding area to Stanley. For the position located in Rolla, the agent will be able to live in the surrounding area to Rolla, including Bottineau.

In addition to the monthly salary, this position includes fully paid health insurance for employee and family, the option to participate in employee-paid dental and vision for employee and family, participation in the state NDPERS defined benefit retirement plan as well as the option to participate in the 457 deferred compensation plan, the option to contribute to a medical spending account, and earning annual and sick leave.

There are three positions available.

Duties and Tasks

1. Participate in supervised basic investigations such as burglary, forgery, possession of controlled substance, larceny/theft, assault, gaming, motor vehicle thefts, stolen property, and other assigned investigations.

2. Maintain proficiency in use of specialized technical equipment.

3. Complete other duties associated with search warrants, preservation of evidence, and case preparation, to include providing sworn testimony.

4. Conduct illegal drug investigations and work in an undercover role.

5. Apprehend and convict suspects who are responsible for the crime.

6. Obtain and exchange intelligence information.

7. Conduct surveillance activities.

8. Prepare and present case reports.

9. Develop and maintain associations with confidential informants.

10. Coordinate arrest and search warrant activities.

11. Operate electronic surveillance equipment.

12. Gather and maintain evidence.

13. Provide law enforcement training.

14. Extensive travel to include overnight stays will be required; vehicle will be provided.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree and five years of investigative experience is preferred. An acceptable combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.

2. Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a North Dakota peace officer.

3. Excellent report writing, communication skills, prioritization, time management, and organization skills.

4. Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious working relationships with co- workers, supervisors, all criminal justice agencies, and the public.

5. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

6. Be in good physical condition.

7. Ability to work in an undercover capacity.

8. Ability to be certified as a North Dakota law enforcement instructor.

9. Possess a valid state issued driver's license.

10. Must carry a firearm and maintain firearm proficiency.

11. Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to complete a polygraph examination, medical evaluation, physical fitness assessment, drug screening, psychological assessment, background investigation, and final hiring panel review. Candidates must successfully complete all of the aforementioned screening processes to be considered for employment.
