Performs a variety of technical assignments associated with the cathodic protection program for the Company’s natural gas distribution facilities in New Bedford. Monitors and maintains the corrosion control facilities by performing testing, inspections, and some repairs of these facilities. Initiates work orders for recommendation improvements and maintenance of corrosion control facilities to ensure compliance with Federal regulations.

JOB DESCRIPTION: LOCATION (Meriden, CT)

Monitor the installation and maintenance of cathodic protection for corrosion control of gas facilities and performs testing and inspections to ensure compliance with Federal DOT Corrosion regulations where applicable.

  • Evaluate and update corrosion circuit record, rectifier notifications, and mapping records.
  • Work Independently to complete monthly assignments and track subsequent areas of cathodic protection exception to meet various state and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Operate and maintain specialized corrosion instruments to obtain field data under a wide variety of conditions
  • Provide corrosion control expertise, within Eversource’ s standards and practices, to Capital Construction team and Gas Operations group for cathodic protection upon request.
  • Troubleshoot cathodic protection systems within the scope of the TMP for the Corrosion Technician classification and initiates appropriate corrective actions; DIG SAFE mark outs and notification for the installation and maintenance of corrosion control facilities.
  • Maintain facility updates on Corrosion Management Software (PCS , WAM etc.)
  • Perform inspections of factory applied coating applications on new Eversource gas piping upon request.

WORKING CONDITIONS

A primarily field position, frequently exposed to high traffic, construction site hazards and hazards on customer premises. This is a safety sensitive position requiring random drug testing. Federal Operator Qualification rules apply.

This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience High school diploma and the ability to pass the applicable Eversource Operator Qualification tests and Time Merit Progression steps to be a full Corrosion Technician within three years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The ability to understand corrosion theory and practice. Thorough knowledge of gas maintenance operations and construction. Thorough knowledge of Federal and State codes relative to corrosion control. Thorough knowledge of the company’s work management system, working knowledge of the company’s GIS. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and the ability to work independently.

Emergency Response Information:

Responding to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs is part of every employee’s role. If employed, you will be given an Emergency Restoration assignment. This means you may be called to assist during an emergency outside of your normal responsibilities, work hours and location.
