POSITION: Corps Ministry Assistant

STATUS: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

SALARY: $22 per hour

Health Insurance: Low bi-weekly premiums ($34.62) for employee only coverage, Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area, Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside of a Kaiser service area. Voluntary +1 and +family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance offered starting at $2.31 bi-weekly cost. Employees are covered by an employer paid life insurance policy. Voluntary supplemental life, short-term and long-term disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employer-funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee funded voluntary 403(b) options

Parental Leave: Benefit will be one week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually accruing from day one, for non-exempt positions. 4 weeks annually accruing from day one, for exempt positions. Accrued vacation is eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays + 1 floating holiday per year.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

As part of the Olympia administration team, you will assist and support the Corps Officer(s) in all corps activities, with an emphasis in youth education initiatives and ministries. This position will help plan, develop, and execute Corps programs for youth and adults.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required. 4 years of college preferred.
  • Uniform wearing Salvationist preferred
  • Ability to speak and write the English language
  • High degree of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism
  • Computer literate, in Windows environment (Microsoft Office), Publisher, Access and social media platforms
  • Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs/applications with basic training.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Some form of experience in teaching the bible and faith practices

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Will be a part of church leadership and ministry team (Expected to work Sundays)
  • Under the direction of the corps officer(s), will assist in all youth ministries including, but not limited to Salvation Army youth programs and community events.
  • Plan, create and implement bible lessons for youth (In addition to teaching lessons weekly)
  • Will assist and coordinate the recruitment and development of volunteer leadership & support for each youth activity, corps program & community event.
  • Will assist in youth outreach and program growth, spiritually as well as numerically.
  • Build, Develop and Maintain community relationships that affect, assist, and contribute to the overall mission of the corps community center and social services office.
  • Adhere to and help to enforce The Salvation Army’s “Protecting the Mission: Policy for Work with Minors.”
  • Drive for corps programs as needed to include pickups for Sunday services, youth programs and corps events.
  • Assist in keeping statistics of programs.
  • Able to create, develop and implement fundraisers to support youth programs and other youth services provided through our programs (i.e., residential camps, special education trips, etc.)
  • Willing to promote and solicit new programs, partnerships and any youth initiatives pertaining to the needs of the community and Salvation Army community center.
  • Will assist and occasionally be asked to lead the coordination of special events, to include, but not limited to:
    • Fundraisers
    • Seasonal Events
    • Specials Community Gatherings
  • Assist with, or lead regularly scheduled Corps Programs such as: Youth Activities, Sunday School, Holiness Meetings, Junior Church, Youth group, Troops, VBS and Special Programs, Events and Divisional Programs/Events
  • Help coordinate and provide transportation for youth to and from programs Supervise Day Camps.
  • Assist with seasonal work including kettles program, and food and toy donation. Connect with kettle locations and income
  • Christmas assistance application intake and distribution. Adopt a Family and toy sorting and bagging. Employees and Volunteers
  • Keep track and submit monthly statistics for the youth programs.
  • Assist with EDS Efforts.
  • Occasionally coordinate and conduct onsite tours of facility
  • Interact professionally in all contact, especially with guest base, donors, board members, community partners and Salvation Army staff and volunteers.
  • Be flexible in hours (able to work nights, weekends, and split shifts when needed)
  • Oversee the registration, advertisement, communication, and transportation components of sending kids to our residential camp for summer activities, Youth Weekend Events (Councils & Retreats), and “one day youth events”.
  • Assist in transporting for programs, donations and special youth and training events.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by Corps Officer.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, ANDABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-starter, detail oriented and team player
  • Must be a person of high integrity, professed Christian beliefs and lifestyle, and in agreement with The Salvation Army’s (TSA) mission statement and doctrinal beliefs.
  • Able to communicate bible themes and lessons to Youth
  • “Missional Minded” – Is passionate to serve those in need and maintain a high quality of care and teaching
  • Two or more years of experience working with youth preferred
  • Must possess an enthusiasm for youth, and a zeal and vision for community outreach.
  • Must be comfortable in leading group activities and events.
  • High level of flexibility as it pertains to the work schedule and the demands of the job
  • General accounting and bookkeeping knowledge.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a valid Washington Class C Driver License,
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Complete The Salvation Army Decision Driving Online Training

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
