Position Summary:
Orlando Health is a 3,200-bed system that includes 15 wholly-owned hospitals and emergency departments; rehabilitation services, cancer institutes, heart institutes, imaging and laboratory services, wound care centers, physician offices for adults and pediatrics, skilled nursing facilities, an in-patient behavioral health facility, home healthcare services in partnership with LHC Group, and urgent care centers in partnership with CareSpot Urgent Care. Nearly 4,200 physicians, representing more than 80 medical specialties and subspecialties have privileges across the Orlando Health system, which employs nearly 22,000 team members. Areas of clinical excellence are orthopedics, heart and vascular, cancer care, neurosciences, surgery, pediatric specialties, neonatology, women’s health and trauma.

Position Summary:
Performs vigilant increased visual observation or continuous visual observation as ordered for the patient.
Assigned at any facility that regularly staffs Patient Safety Attendants on a 24 hour, 7 day per week basis.

(Note: This job description is for the Corporate Float Pool participants. Job code 1961 is used for team members assigned as Pool (per diem) status. Job Code R003 is used for regular benefits-eligible team members assigned as Full-time, Variable Full-time or Part-time status.)
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
  • Provides diversionary activitiessuch asreading aloud to thepatient.
  • Assiststhe patient with nutrition needs as necessary underthe direction ofthe Registered Nurse.
  • Accompaniesthepatientto diagnostic testing and procedures and maintains observation of the patient during tests or
procedures.
  • Never leaves the patient alone unless instructed to by the nurse. For Baker and Marchman Act patients, the patient can never be left alone for any reason.
  • ReceivesreportfromtheRNandpreviousPatientSafetyAttendant andgivesreporttotheRNandoncomingPatientSafety Attendant beforeleaving.
  • Utilizesthe Safe Patient Room Environment Checklist with every change of staff or transfer of care as part of handoff for Baker Act, behavioral health, and suicide risk patients.
  • Observesfor any changesin thepatient’sbehaviorsor actionsand immediately reportsthemto the Registered Nurse.
  • Maintains attendance consistent withOrlandoHealth policies,theADA, FMLA, and otherfederal,state, andlocalstandards.
  • Maintains compliancewith allOrlandoHealth policiesand procedures.

  • Remains awake and alert at all times. Does not engage in activities that would distract them from the patient, such as reading, studying, socializing, using telephone, watching television.
  • Maintains a clean and safe patient care environment.
  • Receives and processesincoming calls, patient calls, and guestrequests as appropriate to the patient.
Qualifications:
Education/Training
High school graduate or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification
Maintains current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification – HeartSaver CPR.
