General Summary

Controller is responsible for direction, administration and compliance in the areas of Accounting, Internal Controls, Regulatory Reporting, and audit coordination. In addition, Controller is responsible for monitoring the credit union investment portfolio and makes investment recommendations consistent with the credit union’s Investment policies and ALM strategy. Establish department procedures and policies. Provide leadership and ensure smooth departmental operations resulting in exceptional service to both internal and external customers. Ensure the maintenance and testing of institution-wide internal controls and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions

1. Provide leadership, training and direction with regard to structure and implementation of accounting policies, procedures and standards regulatory compliance as well as support execution of USXFCU Investment and ALM policies

2. Oversee the day to day operations of the Accounting; directing staff, securing resources and continuously evaluating and revising assignments and work flows

3. Monitor regulatory policies, FASB, GAAP rules and GAAS and their revision. Recommend revisions of USXFCU policies to comply with current and future applicable laws, standards and regulations as well as ensure a sound operating environment.

4. Contribute to the management team goal of providing seamless exceptional service to every member by supporting the CEO as well as communicating and coordinating efforts with Executive Staff, Operations staff, Lending Staff, and the Supervisory Committee.

5. Monitor credit union’s investment portfolio to ensure the investment portfolio consistent with credit union policies and regulations, monitors investment broker performance and investment product suitability for prevailing economic conditions and credit union’s ALM strategy.

6. Manage USXFCU’s cash to insure adequate liquidity, maximize earnings and comply with all applicable regulations and credit union policies.

7. Control the preparation of monthly Board of Director reports and communications to achieve accuracy, timeliness and maximum effectiveness in presentation. Preparation of quarterly regulatory financial reports.

8. Clearly communicate credit union philosophy and departmental strategy and direction to all employees under direct supervision. Such communication should include weekly staff meetings, frequent one on one coaching and annual written evaluation.

9. Support use of data processing report writer, to complete data reporting requirements to the Raddon Financial Group, Brick ALM services, and any subsequently acquired accounting software and our chart of accounts to achieve optimal member services and profitability for each operating unit.

10. Facilitate the dissemination of necessary information to appropriate staff to facilitate the effective performance of their duties and achievement of their assigned objectives.

11. All other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

1. Self-directed, motivated professional with well-developed interpersonal skills, effective communications skills both written and oral. Individual should be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with industry professionals at all levels. Demonstrated ability for independent thinking and creative problem solving is necessary for successful fulfillment of position duties.

2. Position requires extensive knowledge of ALM, GAAP, GAAS, knowledge of uniform commercial code, regulatory rules and guidelines, as well as state and federal laws governing credit union operation.

3. These qualifications are typically acquired through the completion of a high school education plus a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting. At least four years in a busy, complex accounting environment is required. Experience in credit union or community bank environment is preferred. A CPA certification is an additional positive attribute.
