Job Summary

The Hodgdon Group is seeking a Controller to join our well-established, boatbuilding and boatyard businesses. The Controller will be responsible for the company’s financial and internal control policies, its accounting practices, maintenance of fiscal records and the preparation of financial reports. Responsibilities also include cash management, budgeting and analysis, and supervision of the accounting department. The position works closely with and reports directly to the CFO.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to determine profitability and other matters bearing on fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
  • Prepares reports that outline the company’s financial position in the areas of revenue, expenses, and earnings, as well as quarterly consolidations of four related entities. Furnish internal management reports, revise and update reports for usefulness and efficiency.
  • Directly participate in budgeting and forecasting preparation; prepare and monitor monthly actual vs. budget results.
  • Responsible for maintaining and adjusting the company’s accounting policies and procedures to assure the company is complying with GAAP standards.
  • In conjunction with the HR department, oversee both the weekly payroll process and the corporate 401k plan.
  • Manage annual financial review and 401k audit.
  • Supervise accounting personnel, evaluating their performance, keeping them at the highest skill necessary to meet company needs and objectives.
  • Responsible for sales, use and excise tax compliance and any other applicable state or local taxes.
  • Evaluate and manage the organization’s risk management program.
  • Maintain a close and supportive working relationship with all departments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, plus 6 years of increasingly responsible experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and practices as well as strong organizational skills.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software, MAS90 preferred.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to deal with executive management, department managers and outside entities.
  • Knowledge of project accounting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $67,238.11 - $151,410.86 per year
