As a Community Outreach Specialist , you'll utilize innovative strategies and programs to ensure access to health care coverage for the underserved and impact millions of lives. You'll use your energetic, empathetic approach to marketing and add value to our team. Through community marketing and outreach efforts, you will have direct impact on membership growth and retention. You'll use your creativity, strategic lens, and outspoken attitude to be part of an elite team to rewrite the history of UnitedHealth Group.

Working under minimal supervision and collectively with the UHC Medicaid Growth team, this Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for working in targeted communities to increase enrollment. Specifically, this position is responsible for developing sites and establishing valued-partner relationships, securing venues and community-based organizations (CBO's) with marketing activities that provide membership growth opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop valued partner relationships directly with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations (FBOs), providers, external entities, venues, and/or influencers for the purpose of creating, enabling, and nurturing membership retention, growth, and/or sales opportunities
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with the leadership/management of those organizations as a “UnitedHealthcare relationship”. This will allow ongoing access to conduct presentations and informal sales events that generate leads and new membership
  • Work with the existing Community Outreach team to determine current CBO relationships with whom to investigate, identify, initiate and respond to opportunities to create or participate in marketing activities that lead to membership growth
  • Plan, implement, and coordinate sales and/or non-sales events and programs for all assigned products within assigned territory to including budget, promotional items, and collateral materials recommendations
  • Develop and execute innovative outreach and marketing strategies and tactics to support membership growth and retention, innovation and member and provider experience in the assigned territory
  • Drive smart growth in membership and market share in designated area by developing solid relationships with the health plan and across segments and departments to align externally facing strategies (network, marketing, clinical and quality)
  • Track and measures various sales event effectiveness and activities, events, leads & lead progress, sales, appointments, contacts and relationship progress daily through internal systems. Assists with designing and measuring overall sales event strategy. Ensure all events are properly filed with appropriate regulatory agencies through the established UHC process
  • Understand/track membership growth in assigned region, including adds, terms, market share and net growth by county and provider
  • Manage local Medicaid field-based outreach campaigns and work directly with M&R regional sales leaders to leverage DSNP outreach strategies and teams across segments
  • Be able to align growth strategies to address local market priorities and unique requirements to assure delivery of RFP commitments and contractual requirements in assigned territory
  • Conduct market research and competitive analysis to drive outreach strategies and initiatives to gain market share
  • Develop and implement provider engagement strategies (including field-based approaches and face to face visits) in partnership with network partners that specifically focuses on membership growth and retention and making UHC the insurer of choice
  • Orchestrate signature member events, potential consumer events, community-based goodwill and general awareness events that make UHC the insurer of choice
  • Manage sponsorship inquiries
  • Represent the health plan at state meetings, community events, and media relations opportunities
  • Demonstrate/apply understanding of applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and compliance requirements (i.e., HIPAA, ACA, state contracts, CMS regulations)
  • Strategize with marketing department on development of marketing campaigns and educational materials to use for growth
  • Stay informed on UHC operations, provider network, premiums, member services, claims, explanation of benefits, processes and other services and issues to provide community partners, prospects, and members with accurate information, and provide feedback as appropriate
  • Performs other duties as required

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of business to consumer (B2C) marketing, customer service or community outreach experience
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Work core business hours, Monday - Friday, 40 hours, overtime, weeknights, and weekends, when required
  • Good driving history and current driver's license
  • Insured, dependable vehicle
  • Travel locally up to 75% of the time within this VA assigned territory
  • Reside in/within commutable distance to Virginia Beach or Norfolk, VA

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • Experience working with or at a Medicaid provider office
  • Managed care, Medicaid, or Medicare experience
  • Established professional relationships with non-profits, community sources, religious/faith-based organizations (FBO’s), providers in designated sales territory
  • Experience working with communities of all different ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, diverse populations and/or underserved communities
  • Bilingual
