Staff Vacancy Announcement


The Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities (RIIC) invites applications for a Communication Coordinator and Data Manager to join their team. The primary responsibilities of this position include:


  • Writing, directing and coordinating the development, design, production, distribution and promotion of RI digital and print materials and products. Examples of RI products include the Annual Report, website content, fact sheets, pamphlets, press releases, story pitches, social media posts, promotional materials, etc.
  • Coordinating internal communication and RI-wide communication efforts, such as committees for strategic planning, diversity equity and inclusion, and service collaboration.
  • Independently collecting and summarizing unit-level data across 50+ projects/ programs, providing analysis and strategic improvement recommendations to the Rural Institute executive leadership.
  • Actively contribute to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace through service-related activities within the Rural Institute, the University of Montana, and/or the Missoula community.
  • Oversee external contractors to design, develop and implement public-facing electronic communication assets and educational materials (e.g., web-based resources).
  • Supervise and direct internal employees (e.g., graphic designers and content editors) who develop educational materials.
  • Supervise student employees hired to assist with resource development and other initiatives.
  • Supervise VISTA volunteers to accomplish statewide outreach resource development and dissemination activities, including innovative uses of social media.

Required Qualifications


  • Experience creating digital and print materials in various formats for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated high-quality written communication skills including, grammar, composition, and the ability to edit.
  • Experience using personal computers, standard office equipment, and relevant software such as Microsoft Office Suite tools (e.g., Excel, Word, PPT, Outlook).
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals and create and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, education or related human services field, and three (3) years of related experience.
  • Experience organizing and collecting data, including preparing reports
  • Experience with web site management.
  • Experience strategizing, developing, and facilitating internal and external communications.

Position Details


Position Title: Communication Coordinator and Data Manager

(Public Education Specialist)

Position Number: 292040

Department: Rural Institute for Inclusive Communities (RIIC)

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week),

Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM, 12 months/year

Salary: $22.553/hr

Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period: Six months minimum

Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan,
