CNC Mill/Turn Machine Operator - BWX Technologies, Inc. - Euclid, OH

Sets up, operates and inspects multiple conversational and CNC machining centers to perform machine functions such as cutting, drilling, milling, turning and boring of alloy and non-alloy work pieces by performing the following duties, plus all lower codes per management's discretion.

Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate multiple machines.
  • Verify and inspect all features using appropriate inspection methods.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, operating sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, machining methods and machining sequences.
  • Mount, align and secure tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine.
  • Select and install cutting tools in machine.
  • Enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database.
  • Calculate and set machine controls to position spindle in relationship to work piece and to regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
  • Input through automatic download or manually, all SPC information as defined by the engineering community to establish and maintain process controls.
  • Start machine and monitor displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions and deviations.
  • Stop machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence and to measure parts to ensure conformance to blueprint specifications.
  • Enter command or manually adjust machine controls to correct malfunctions and out-of-tolerance machining.
  • Operate machine manually to perform non automated functions and when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.
  • Discuss control media errors with supervisor or programming personnal to resolve problems.
  • Clean machine, tools, and parts.
  • Perform machine maintenance, housekeeping and other duties as assigned by supervision.
  • Perform grinding function as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citzenship, and citizen of no other country
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency
  • Two (2) years of set-up and operation of CNC Milling and Turning Centers
  • Experience reading and interpreting geometric tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5
  • Verifiable experience using measuring instruments, including dial bore gages, indicator snap gages, verniers, and .0001 micrometers.
  • CNC control abilities on milling AND turning centers - including editing speeds and feeds, tool offsets, and fixture offsets.
  • Possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation and the ability to follow complicated procedures and document accordingly.
  • Demonstrate above average CNC milling abilities on a test piece.
  • Own applicable personal tools.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk to hear. The employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
