Summary/Objective:

Assists in overseeing and facilitating the development, implementation, support, troubleshooting and evaluation of clinical software systems at Sweeny Community Hospital. Works effectively through all phases of the systems development life cycle (SDLC) from an organizational perspective to ensure the development and implementation of information systems that meet organizational requirements. Works closely with Information Technology and District Leadership and functions as a liaison, developing requirements, coordinating system implementation and maintenance for District personnel using appropriate information system applications. Coordinates solving application issues between vendors and District personnel. Assists clinical department’s staff members in ensuring optimal usage of all software systems. Assists in developing / modifying policies and procedures impacted by information systems.

  • Collaborates with Information Technology and District Leadership to define objectives for assigned organizational projects and to develop accurate and complete project work plans that consider all aspects of system implementation.
  • Identifies functional requirements, business specifications, system implementation, educational needs and collaborates with departments for planning, implementation, training, policies and procedures, go live, support, maintenance, and upgrades.
  • Develops and generates reports from appropriate information systems – collaborates with end users to analyze data and identify trends to improve organizational performance and outcomes.
  • Maintains a professional relationship with all software vendors and acts as a liaison between those vendors and District staff members in assisting correcting all application/user errors.
  • Takes a lead in coordinating with vendors in tracking and resolving all open issues.
  • Provides leadership for system implementation and project management.
  • Leads and/or participates in system optimization and functions as a subject matter expert (SME).
  • Assists in creating a climate for identifying and resolving opportunities and issues among the District’s information systems and vendors.
  • Takes a leadership role in reviewing, training, and implementing new versions and/or updates to applications received from vendors.
  • Keeps Information Technology Leadership informed of issues and project statuses.
  • Demonstrates adherence to the laws and regulations passed by official regulating bodies, general principles of ethical conduct and internal policies and procedures.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in the Information Technology field.
  • Participating in the Information Technology on-call rotation may be required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

The majority of the time will be spent in an office/clinical environment.

Physical Demands:

Duties regularly require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, pushing, pulling and crouching as well as lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

40 hours a week Monday through Friday, but may be called out after hours for IT related needs.

Requirements:

Travel

Occasional travel is possible for this position due to training, meetings and conferences.

Required Education, Experience and License

Texas Driver License if driving for SCH with an acceptable record

Preferred Education, Experience and License

  • Bachelor Degree (mandatory) in Medical field (Nursing, Laboratory, Imaging, etc.).
  • 5 years’ experience in a healthcare clinical role or Healthcare Information Technology position (mandatory).
  • 3 years' experience using the Cerner EMR application in a clinical environment (preferred).
