Position Focus:

The Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative at the Yale School of Public Health is seeking a clinical or counseling psychologist to support our NIH-funded clinical trials of the efficacy and implementation of LGBTQ-affirmative cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in the United States and several international settings. The position will be based in our New York City office in Midtown Manhattan.

The clinical supervisor will directly deliver evidence-based LGBTQ-affirmative CBT as part of clinical trials and provide supervision to a staff of study therapists, typically graduate students in clinical and counseling psychology. The clinical supervisor will also oversee quality assurance and therapist fidelity to the treatment. As such, the candidate should possess strong attention to detail, communication, organizational oversight, and leadership skills. Opportunities might also exist to conduct national trainings in LGBTQ-affirmative CBT as part of implementation research, pending funding. Opportunities also exist to become involved in the research process including advising participant recruitment and supporting data analysis and manuscript writing, depending on research interest and preparation.

The primary responsibilities of the clinical supervisor will include: Delivering evidence-based LGBTQ-affirmative CBT. Managing and supporting the onboarding and training to a staff of study therapists delivering LGBTQ-affirmative CBT. Responding to clinical issues that arise in therapy sessions or participant interviews with research staff. Preparing reports for the Institutional Review Board and Data and Safety Monitoring Board regarding clinical issues that arise during research study. Supporting the training of research assistants conducting clinical interviews with participants. Coding videos of therapy sessions for fidelity and quality assurance. Advising the research team on measures, coding, and analysis of clinical topics. Regular meetings with the research team to update on study progress.

Essential Duties

1. Manages and conducts recruitment and assessment study components of all clinical research studies. In conjunction with the PI, develops timelines and protocols. 2. Acts as project manager in studies involving multiple sites. Oversees quality and recruitment, and responsible for organizational planning for all sites. 3. Manages a team of research staff. 4. Develops protocols for sample collection and long term storage in biorepository in studies involving tissue collection. 5. Assists the PIs with budget preparation for grants, tracking of funds, and managing of subcontracts with participating sites. 6. Develops, implements procedures and data quality assurance standards and creates and maintains Manual of Operations for recruitment and assessment, and sample collection components of studies. Prepares and adjusts recruitment and assessment study plans by designing strategies and analyzing relevant data. 7. Prepares IRB submissions, annual re-approvals, and requests for amendments for the Yale IRB as well as applications to other IRBs and governing institutions involved in the studies. 8. Participates in the design of conduct of study reports. Evaluates recruitment and assessment study progress on an ongoing basis. 9. Determines subject's eligibility and acceptability to clinical studies based on the study inclusion and exclusion criteria from screening assessments. 10. Obtains and interprets medical outcome data and clinical test results from other sources: hospitals, physicians' office, and death certificates. 11. Establishes and implements an adverse monitoring protocol if necessary. 12. Prepares educational seminars and material to enhance staff knowledge and awareness of the purpose and value of the study. 13. Organizes retention events, including dinner and luncheon meetings. 14. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated ability delivering mental health care to sexual minority individuals, including sexual minority women and transgender and gender diverse individuals.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Formal training and demonstrated ability in cognitive-behavioral therapy.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Demonstrated ability conducting psychological research with sexual and gender minority individuals.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Training and demonstrated ability in implementation science and/or community-engaged research. Involvement in clinical trials research.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

A PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology and New York State psychology licensure (or license eligible).
