SUMMARY
Under general direction, the Clinical Director partners with a designated Service Line Chair and Executive Director(s) - Service Line to assure the execution of Atrius Health’s strategy and goals at an organization-wide specialty level. Supervises and manages Clinical Nurse Managers in a designated service line and collaborates with Practice Administrators to assure that LPNs and RNs in a designated service line are aligned to fulfill our mission and contribute to the success of the service line at the individual site practice level. Ensure that nurses are delivering high quality, safe patient care and that nursing staff are aligned to fulfill our mission and contribute to success of the service line at the site. Collaborates with the Service Line Chair, Executive Director(s) – Service Line, Practice Administrators and department leadership in planning the role of nursing staff in achieving practice goals.

May provide nursing leadership and clinical management of a service line department clinical/procedural unit (e.g., Oncology, Endoscopy), partnering with the designated Medical leadership and associated Administrators. Assumes fiscal responsibility in partnership with the Chair and Executive Director(s) - Service Line. Develops relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and standard work for nursing with the service line. Develops a cohesive staff development strategy for nurses in the service line, including clinical training and coaching in support of service line initiatives. Maintains accountability for achieving service line goals. Assures that nurses are practicing in accordance with legal parameters, guidelines, and standards of clinical care. Manages projects and provides team leadership for service line-based initiatives.

Leads patient care improvement initiatives. Serves as a mentor and role model to nurse leaders, nursing (LPN and RN) and professional staff. In collaboration with appropriate Clinical Nurse Managers and Practice Administrators, addresses service line-specific performance management issues. Consults with Service Line Leadership regarding standards of service line nursing care, safety, and scope of practice. Recruits, interviews and selects Clinical Nurse Managers in service line in collaboration with site and service line leadership. Ensures nurses in the organization maintain current licensure. Ensures strict adherence to the MNA contract in the service line. May provide direct clinical care in a designated practice. Serves as a liaison to senior management concerning issues pertinent to the service line. Travel to practice sites as needed. Collaborates with, and provides support to local leadership to redesign workflows and responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective care delivery in alignment with nursing and service line/specialty priorities.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS


Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (e.g., MSN, MHA, MPH) preferred. Current license to practice - RN professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current Certification in Ambulatory Care preferred.

EXPERIENCE


5 - 7 years’ related experience required to include leadership or management in healthcare or related field. 3-5 years’ clinical experience within specialty area preferred, ambulatory setting a plus. Management /leadership experience in a nursing collective bargaining environment preferred.

SKILLS

Skills acquired through 7-10 years’ experience in healthcare and demonstrated leadership skills. Working knowledge of organizational systems and operations preferred. Must be able to act cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Requires strong interpersonal skills and communication skills. Must have a demonstrated commitment to the principals of collaboration and teamwork. Financial acumen.
