POSITION AVAILABLE: The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Instructor position to assist with undergraduate course development and instruction for online and hybrid courses in the area of Engineering Technology. This is a 9-month clinical position with optional summer teaching opportunities.

JOB DESCRIPTION/REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent will work closely with the program leadership to develop and promote this new academic area. The individual will contribute to the mission, vision, and core values of the College by teaching in accordance with best practices and ABET accreditation requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Terminal degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field, preferably with 18 hours of graduate-level courses in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, and/or Civil Engineering for Clinical Assistant Professor position.
  • Or Master’s degree in Engineering Technology or a related field for Clinical Instructor position.
  • Knowledge of best practices for teaching, advising, and mentoring.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field; and
  • Experience in designing/facilitating online and blended delivery courses.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years teaching experience in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge and experience collaborating with community colleges, veteran organizations, and/or government/industry on educational partnerships and/or scholarship opportunities.
  • Relevant Engineering Industry experience.
  • PE license.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Teaching undergraduate Engineering Technology courses;
  • Developing quality online and hybrid curriculum;
  • Assisting with the coordination and oversight of part-time ET faculty;
  • Providing leadership and commitment to build and maintain high-quality degree programs;
  • Advising and mentoring students;
  • Collaborating with colleagues to conduct program and course planning and revisions;
  • Attending meetings, training sessions, and recruitment opportunities; and
  • Providing service to the University, College, and Profession as applicable.

APPOINTMENT DATE: Fall 2023.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Engineering Technology is a new program at the University of Alabama in Huntsville that is growing quickly. The program provides an academic environment that supports both first-year college students and students returning to UAH to continue their education and expand their career options. To meet the academic and logistical needs of our students, the department offers both in person and online courses with all courses offered either online or in evening time slots. The program is positioned to pivot to help meet current industry needs and standards and support student success.
