The Gonzaga Climate Literacy Project Assistant offers the opportunity to have a tangible impact on the lives of students and teachers in the Spokane area and advance climate literacy in our region. . The Gonzaga Climate Literacy Project seeks to help teachers and students develop a foundational scientific understanding of the complex workings of our climate, what has caused it to change in the past, the most likely causes of its present changes, and the likely global, regional, and local impacts of a changing climate. This service position will create opportunities for participants to have a tangible impact on the lives of students and teachers in the Spokane area and advance climate literacy in our region. Teachers and students are eager to learn more about how to integrate climate literacy into the classroom and their lives outside of school. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to mentor Gonzaga undergraduate Climate Literacy Fellows as they develop lessons, learn teaching best practices, and engage with local elementary students.



Member Duties : • Attend all Spokane Service Team trainings and AmeriCorps national days of service. • Maintain accurate and timely reports and timecards. • Attend meetings related to the Climate Literacy Project. • Maintain climate literacy kits and materials. • Maintain digital files, communications, and projects in an organized way. • Represent Gonzaga University and the Center for Climate, Society, and the Environment in a professional manner at all times. • Help coordinate and advertise Climate Center Events. • Help Program Coordinator to develop and deliver climate literacy workshops, trainings, and programs. • Conduct research to determine teaching best practices and assist Program Coordinator in analyzing workshop data. • Assist Program Coordinator in overseeing Climate Literacy Fellows and help coordinate class visits. • Advertise Climate Center workshops to teachers in Eastern Washington • Develop and organize contact lists for teacher recruitment. • Other duties as assigned.
