If so, take a moment to learn about an exciting career opportunity to work as a Studio Manger with Cary's Arts Education Team.

The Studio Manager will help load and unload our kilns, mix and test commercially prepared glazes and assist our patrons and students as they explore the multitude of processes used to create work in clay.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours per week with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Class and camp dates and times vary throughout the year. Must be available on weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends.

Typical Tasks

  • Load and unload work (bisque and glaze) in one of 6 electric kilns;
  • Assist with firing our raku and cone 10 reduction kilns
  • Care for kiln shelves and furniture;
  • Kiln wash and grind shelves as necessary;
  • Stilt and hang work appropriately for firing;
  • Trouble shoot and do basic kiln maintenance;
  • Ensure that class and open studio firing dates are met;
  • Keep accurate records of each firing in a kiln log;
  • Mix dry commercial glazes;
  • Help with inventory control of all glazes and glaze materials;
  • Answer technical patron questions;

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of all safety procedures and regulations required in a kin room and glaze mixing lab; knowledge of proper and safe equipment use and maintenance; including cleaning processes; skilled in use of hand and power tools; skilled in time-management; skilled in customer service; ability to pass and maintain respirator training: ability to successfully communicate verbally and in writing; ability to lift and move 50lb bags of material ability to successfully communicate verbally and in writing; ability to follow verbal and written direction.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience
High school degree or equivalent.

Must be at least 18 years old.

Must have at least 1 year of clay studio work experience.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to see, stand for extended length of time, and lift 50 pounds;

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
