The Division of Roadway Repair and Maintenance is responsible for ensuring the appropriate maintenance NYC streets, roads, and arterials. This undertaking involves planning, monitoring, compliance and enforcement. As the City Planner III, selected candidate will be assigned several simultaneous projects and assist with managing/monitoring up to 28 construction contracts. Assignment includes Inspection of structures and grounds to ascertain rehabilitation/maintenance/installation needs with regards to construction, equipment, materials; determination of work required and methods to be utilized; prioritizing and making recommendations for corrective actions. Prepare general and special reports, documents, maps and related document; identify hazardous situations, problems and discrepancies, evaluate work, and ensure formulation of punch lists; and trusted with the undertaking of utilizing effective actions to ensure timely implementation, progression, and completion; and liaison with other primary agencies and private utilities companies, and attend meetings. Operate and maintain city vehicle in accordance with all DMV laws, rules, regulations, and NYC Vehicle Driver Handbook.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to “1"" above. Graduate
education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, two additional years of professional experience as described in "2" above.

Preferred Skills

Position requires physical outdoor work during field inspections in all types of weather conditions such as standing for extended periods of time, bending, stooping, and climbing over objects.

Position requires the wearing hard hat/helmet, safety vest, safety boots, safety eyewear, DEET or other insect repellents, and other protective clothing and equipment.

Position involves working in areas that are hot, cold, damp, dark, dusty, smoky, or acrid. Locations may involve encounters with rodents and insects.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
