The position of P-8 Family Engagement Coordinator is Classified, Exempt, 8 hours per day, 227 days/year including paid holidays.

Position Overview:

This position, in alignment with the mission and vision of the Student Achievement Initiative (SAI), will engage parents and community members with their local schools through meaningful involvement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Facilitate teacher workshops to promote strategies designed to create a welcoming culture and develop meaningful educational opportunities, targeting families of concern based on demographics
  • Facilitate parent workshops to promote better understanding of school systems, improve communication skills, social skills, career development, and build rapport
  • Schedule home visits to develop relationships and trust with families needing additional support
  • Utilize dual-generational strategies to increase post-secondary degree and credential attainment for parents
  • Schedule family field trips to college campuses
  • Engage with families to inform them of the importance of early intervention and awareness to lay the foundation for career and college readiness at the secondary level
  • Engage with families to identify and create resolutions to barriers that have traditionally caused marginalization in PK-12 education toward increasing equitable outcomes for students
  • Collect, analyze and present data based on the effectiveness of specific program components
  • Serves as a communication team member to support the ongoing message of the Student Achievement Initiative
  • Work directly with parents and families, particularly those who are asset-limited, such as families who cannot afford daycare or preschool and don’t qualify for assistance programs like ECEAP
  • Team and collaborate with school counselors to assist families with a successful transition for their child(ren) from elementary to middle school

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Classified Position - Also open to certificated staff
  • Experience working with students and families preferred, other experience can be used in place of teaching experience
  • Successful presentation/training skills
  • Spanish fluency preferred (reading/writing/listening/speaking)
  • Successful experience engaging community partners and organizations in support of students
  • Successful experience working within schools to provide support for families and students
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/background clearance
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate performance, demonstrate activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and computer applications
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity is preferred
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Job Information:

  • Non-represented District Office Group (classified)
  • Grant funded (remainder of 2022-2023 school year through 2023-2024 school year)
  • Continuation of position will depend upon further grant funding

Compensation and Benefits:

The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) and DRS (Washington State Department of Retirement Systems) eligibility and benefits.
