Job Summary and Qualifications

• Completes pre-operative assessments and interprets data to formalize an individual plan of care for surgical patients. Evaluates the patient's plan of care to insure positive patient outcomes.
• Demonstrates competency in circulating cases as it relates to unit scope of care including planning and providing equipment and supplies based on physician and patient needs.
• Demonstrates competency in scrubbing cases as it relates to unit scope of care including utilizing principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.
• Administers medications and solutions in the O.R including monitoring the physiological status of patients receiving IV conscious sedation during surgery.
• Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relate to unit scope if care.
• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.
• Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.
• Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.
• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.
• Serves as a professional member of the OR team.
• Pursues own professional growth through continuing education inservices, and certification.
• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.

What qualifications you will need:

• Current Virginia license required
  
• RNRA Certification - Must maintain certification as an RNFA or will be returned to staff nurse position
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Certified Surgical Technician (CST), or Licensed Practical / Vocational Nurse (LPN / LVN), or Registered Nurse, or Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or Certified Surgical Assistant
• Certificate, or High School Graduate / GED, or Registered Nurse Diploma, or Vocational School Graduate
