The University of Virginia's Department of Student Health and Wellness is seeking a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Certified Nursing Assistants assist with caring for patients.

The CNA is part of a team and establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. The CNA follows protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures and receives formal supervision from the Director of Nursing Services.

Certified Nursing Assistants assist with caring for patients. They prepare patients for appointments by obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR, assist staff with procedures, prepare patients for discharge/home care, and maintain unit supplies and equipment. They perform direct and indirect patient care activities according to established policies and procedures, observe and report changes in patient conditions, and maintain a safe and clean environment. Work is assigned at the task level and performed under direct supervision. In the event of an emergency, may be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the governor.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
  • Preparing patients for appointments (obtaining vital signs and entering into EMR).
  • Maintaining clinic flow.
  • Assisting staff with procedures (EKGs, ear irrigations, collecting lab specimens).
  • Ensuring patient safety.
  • Maintaining infection control standards.
  • Preparing patients for discharge and home care (crutches, patient education, follow-up appointments, transportation).
  • Maintaining unit supplies and equipment.
  • Functions as a team member under the direction of the LPN and team leader in the respective module. Establishes priorities by collaborating with other team members. Follows protocols for obtaining vital signs and performing simple procedures.

The salary range for this position is $18.00-$20.50 per hour. This is an overtime-eligible position with UVA benefits. Employees benefits package highlights include:

The successful candidate will pass both a background check and a health and drug screen.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Education: High school diploma
  • Experience: At least one year of experience as a CNA.
  • Licensure: Certified Nursing Aide certification and CPR certification.

On feet seeing patients and significant movement.
