Overview:
Case Coordinator, Office of the County Adjuster
Civil Service Title: Community Service Aide

Under direction of the County Adjuster, assists with the administration of commitments to county and state hospitals and institutions; assists with the administration of firearm applications; and does related work as required.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the administration of commitments to County, State, Private or Special Psychiatric Hospitals and institutions, and scheduling of Court hearings.
  • Assists in determining legal residency and ability to pay of those admitted to these hospitals.
  • Responsible for assisting with any billing and auditing overseen by the County Adjuster.
  • Maintains essential records and files.
  • As directed, may present cases relating to this work before the court.
  • As directed, may represent the county at hearings under the Child Welfare Act.
  • As directed, may prepare informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
Qualifications:
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
Experience: Experience with NJ State courts

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to learn & utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by local, state, and federal agencies, or related units.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented with the ability to act with urgency.
  • Knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the commitment of institutionalized persons.
  • Knowledge of locating, reviewing, and abstracting case and law references.
  • Knowledge of preparing outlines of cases and suitable arguments for cases which are to be presented in court.
  • Ability to confer with members of the courts, trust officers, representatives of estates, and other persons interested in or concerned persons committed to institutions.
  • Knowledge of the preparation of detailed correspondence.
  • Ability to keep needed records and files.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the committing of persons to county and state hospitals and other institutions.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

License
Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
