General Function: To provide direct leadership and supervision of all programming at Camp Boomerang at the Pierson Road Family YMCA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission, vision and direction of the Operations Director and the YMCA of Greater Flint.
  • Assist with marketing Camp Boomerang and implement camper recruitment strategies.
  • Participate in and contribute to planning meetings with the seasonal Camp Boomerang Camp Coordinator and Operations Director.
  • Create and implement programming and scheduling for all day camps that is fun, impactful and safe.
  • Provide program leadership that prioritizes mission based quality and stimulates camper retention.
  • Monitor safety and all procedures as they pertain to the complete supervision of all campers and staff.
  • Serves as a keeper of camp resources, integrity, reputation, & mission development.
  • Maintain a positive and productive attitude while always keeping the highest quality of customer service.
  • Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the camp staff.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, supervise and develop seasonal camp counselors.
  • Coach and mentor seasonal staff; share in the necessary job responsibilities of the staff.
  • Correct or reprimand staff as soon as possible (in private) for actions that put the health or safety of campers in jeopardy and document everything.
  • In collaboration with the Summer Camp Directors at Camp Copneconic lead in the delivery of staff training and on-going staff development.
  • When needed, speak with campers’ parents regarding behavioral issues and work together to create a plan to ensure the success of the camper.
  • Follow up with parents regarding camp payments, missing paperwork, etc.
  • Build positive relationships with camper parents through intentional touch points.
  • Lead weekly staff meetings to discuss, plan, and evaluate camp programs.
  • Evaluate current season and make recommendations for the following year.
  • Ensure state licensing requirements are met and lead the yearly inspection.
  • Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Minimum Age:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Working Conditions:
  • Work with a computer monitor over 6 hours/day
  • Work in an outdoor setting over 6 hours/day
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.

Job Type: Temporary

Pay: $525.00 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

  • Flushing, MI 48433: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
