The ideal candidate is an art teacher or after school arts instructor who has had prior experience creating with a group of 15-18 students. Must have prior experience working with children in a creative arts setting. As an arts & crafts teacher you will help campers unleash their creativity and imagination through various arts projects. It will be a sticky, colorful, splattered wonderful mix of mess!

The SAY Camp Art Teacher works in three indoor camp locations, Summit YMCA, Berkeley Heights YMCA and the Springfield Community Pool.

This position works 10 of the 12 camp weeks, 12 week Camp Season runs 6/12/23 – 9/1/23. Scheduled ours are Monday - Friday with 5 hour daily shifts. There is an opportunity to work more weeks or more hours in the general camp program.

Required pre-season camp training begins May 23, 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, organizing and the execution of arts & crafts program for all age groups.
  • Responsible for teaching and leading arts and crafts projects at camp.
  • Responsible for training, orientating, and overseeing arts and crafts helpers.
  • Responsible for inventorying supplies at the end of the week to determine what will be required for the next session.
  • Responsible for preparation and clean-up of arts and craft classes.
  • Responsible for making sure that the craft room is kept and left neat and clean, with all appropriate items locked away at the end of the day. (I.e. scissors, exactor-knives, etc.)
  • Responsible for learning the basic facilities, layout of camp, and the communication system in the event of an emergency. Be familiar with phone locations, first aid stations, information stations, etc.
  • Responsible for maintaining a professional, neat, and clean appearance at all times.
  • Responsible for having crafts, supplies, equipment, etc. all set up and ready to go, ten minutes before the scheduled time of event.
  • Responsible for adherence to all rules, regulations, and policies of the camp.
  • Responsible for filling in when necessary or as scheduled for other areas.
  • Responsible for other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Must have a High School Diploma or its equivalency.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • At least 2 years child care, camp or educational experience.
  • A background in recreation, camping or sports is favorable.
  • Must have good overall leadership skills, excellent communication and organizational skills, a cooperative attitude, and the ability to work with and understand the needs of children.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications are required prior to the beginning of camp season; training provided by YMCA.

Camp Staff must be able to attend pre season camp training beginning May 23, 2023.
