Job Description
This individual, based in Boston, will be responsible for Arrowstreet’s business development and consulting relationship management efforts in a large territory in the US. The Business Development Manager (BDM) will work alongside other BDMs and Client Relationship Managers in Boston and London. The role reports to the Head of Business Development & Consultant Relations.
The candidate must have proven business development expertise and a demonstrated record of accomplishment defining the institutional prospective universe, establishing and executing a robust and creative marketing plan, and building sophisticated relationships with investment consultants. In addition the individual will be expected to develop and maintain strong relationships with a number of internal business partners, effectively communicate complex investment methodologies, and handle numerous tasks simultaneously while meeting critical deadlines. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have the ability to prioritize and manage opportunities and projects on their own, as well as manage and work in a team environment.
This person must be a self-motivated, intellectually curious, and confident professional who is comfortable working independently. Significant travel and flexibility of working hours is expected. The successful candidate is expected to be office-based for at least three days a week (ignoring travel).
Responsibilities
  • Identify prospects, build relationships, develop and close new business opportunities on terms and conditions consistent with the firm’s business objectives
  • Profile our investment strategies in a way consistent with our image, business practices, and culture
  • Professionally represent the firm in the institutional marketplace, including the following segments: corporate and public pensions (DB and DC), endowments, foundations, OCIO, and funds of hedge funds
  • Develop, build, strengthen, manage, and deepen investment consultant relationships
  • Leverage firm resources in a thoughtful and diligent fashion
  • Communicate and collaborate with other BDMs and Relationship Management colleagues
  • Ensure marketing efforts, materials, and proposals are current, accurate, and compliant
  • Assist on client related matters as necessary
In order to complete the requirements of this role successfully, members of this team must:
  • Possess business development skills and expertise,
  • Establish and execute a robust marketing plan,
  • Effectively communicate complex investment concepts for audiences of varying levels of sophistication,
  • Build and enhance relationships with investment consultants,
  • Handle numerous tasks simultaneously while meeting critical deadlines,
  • Possess a strong attention to detail,
  • Prioritize and manage opportunities and projects on their own as well as working with others in a team environment,
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with a variety of internal parties,
  • Be willing to travel and be flexible with respect to working hours as might be required,
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills,
  • Ability to articulate the benefits and differentiators of quantitative equity investing,
  • Competency with internal CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and various investment databases
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree. An MBA or other graduate degree in finance is a plus,
  • CFA is strongly preferred,
  • At least 5-10 years of institutional business development experience,
  • Experience working in the Defined Contribution market and/or with hedge fund investors would be advantageous,
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills,
  • Strong presentation skills regarding investment topics,
  • Familiarity with quantitative equity investing would be useful
