The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction enforces statewide standards for building construction. The Division of Plumbing is responsible for conducting plumbing inspections and permitting plumbing installations to ensure compliance with the state plumbing code and the regulations of the department. The Boiler Inspection Section within this Division is responsible for inspecting all new installations of boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure piping that must meet compliance with the state statutes and regulations. The section also inspects uninsured boilers and pressure vessels in service and issues inspection certificates. We are seeking a Boiler Inspector I to be a part of the team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspects boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Checks manufacturers, owners, and operators to determine compliance with boiler laws.
  • Investigates boiler complaints.
  • Prepares inspection reports, certificates, accident, and investigative reports.
  • Participates in trainings and studies Power Piping, Boiler, and Pressure Vessel codes.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Possess sufficient technical knowledge of Boiler and Pressure Vessels.
  • Proven abilities to manage multiple projects.
  • Conduct effective research.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail.
  • High level of customer service.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have five years of practical experience in the installation, construction, maintenance, repair or operation of high pressure boilers and pressure vessels as a mechanical engineer, practical steam operating engineer, boilermaker, pressure vessel inspector or boiler inspector.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid drivers license prior to appointment in this classification. Must pass the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors examination within 12 months. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possess and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title must travel on a daily basis.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
