Department Purpose

UC Davis Government and Community Relations (GCR) leads campus and health system efforts to ensure the success of multiple legislative, budget, advocacy, and community-based relationship-building initiatives, projects, and activities. The office serves as the official campus voice to elected officials and their staffs and to community organizations and opinion leaders. Government and Community Relations serves as a resource to faculty, students, staff, researchers, and volunteer leaders, providing leadership, support, and guidance to them in their interactions with local, state, and federal government officials and to community leaders. GCR is a unit in the Office of the Chancellor.

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Aggie Square Receptionist will support the daily operations at the Aggie Square Launch Space, provide administrative and project support to the Aggie Square team members in the building.

Aggie Square, the innovation district under construction on the UC Davis Sacramento campus will be home to research programs, private industry partners, student housing and public-facing programs that engage local communities and entrepreneurs. Aggie Square’s 1.2 million square feet of new office, classroom, laboratory, and meeting space will help attract both government and private research funding to Sacramento and UC Davis and serve as an economic engine in the region. The first buildings of Phase I will open in early 2025.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Experience using computer software and email programs, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suites, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Excellent customer service skills and experience as a receptionist, scheduler, front office representative or similar role.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills to interact professionally with diverse groups including university students, faculty, staff, local, state elected officials and their staff, community leaders and members of the public and to produce professional correspondence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain high productivity.
  • Demonstrated judgement and initiative to identify potential problems, recommend solutions and implement work process improvements or streamline office operations and to resolve issues proactively.
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 25 lbs. including packages and lightweight office furniture for meetings and events.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive project information.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Experience planning and hosting events.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Knowledge of UC Davis University campus and UC Davis Sacramento campus.
  • Ability to learn and master software systems like AggieBuy/Aggie Expense.
