Job Summary
Benefits Analyst is a customer-centric and solutions focused individual responsible for benefits and retirement program administration. The incumbent will be responsible for processing and providing guidance on a broad range of university and state employee benefits including providing consultation to employees regarding Virginia Retirement System, processing of health insurance and flexible spending accounts; and conducting presentations to constituency groups regarding benefits. This position is also responsible for coordinating and processing a broad range of ancillary benefits programs including Worker’s Compensation, and other related employee benefits. This position serves as the University representative for the CommonHealth initiative. This position is also responsible for entry and tracking of benefits information within applicable HR information systems.

Required Qualifications

Knowledge and experience with employee benefits programs and retirement processes.

Demonstrated experience with HR information systems;

Working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act ( FLSA ), Family and Medical Leave Act ( FMLA );

Demonstrated ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential information and materials;

Experience with office software and database programs to produce reports and analyze data, strong excel skills required;

Ability to make independent decisions and recommendations to resolve complex issues;

Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, and communication skills;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse backgrounds on all levels of the organization;

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining attention to detail and prioritizing work;

Strong customer service experience;

Ability to independently interpret and follow rules, regulations, instructions and guidelines.

Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying agency, state, and federal policies and procedures applicable to employee benefits administration.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia employee benefit policies and application; * Experience in Human Resources and Benefits Administration; * Experience presenting to diverse groups of people; * Demonstrated working experience with Banner; * Relevant experience in higher education or state government; * HR certification ( CEBS , CCP , PHR , SPHR , SHRM -CP, SHRM - SCP ) desirable.
Hiring Range
$45,000-$55,000
