Principal Function: The Assistant Site Manager is responsible for assisting with all activities, operations, and aspects relating to the operation of B.A.S.E/PEAK/Camp for Brownsburg Parks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining site management, supervision, and customer service in the event of an absence of the Site Manager.
  • Communicate frequently with the Site Manager to stay updated on any new information or changes regarding programming for the day to support the participants and staff.
  • Perform check-in and check-out procedures for participants in the registration software daily.
  • Assist in handling customer payments for their account on the website.
  • Assist in answering and responding to customer inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Work alongside the Site Manager in planning and preparation of site-specific programming on a daily basis.
  • Assist the Site Manager in modeling policies and procedures for the Youth Counselors and provide coaching if necessary.
  • Assist the Site Manager in delegating the Youth Counselor's responsibilities such as facilitating daily enrichment and physical activities.
  • Assist participants with daily homework and academic activities.
  • Supervise students and staff throughout all aspects of the daily program and maintain the routine schedule set in place by the Site Manager.
  • Attend and participate in professional development meetings and training.
  • Monitors inventory levels of site-specific supplies; initiate orders for new or replacement materials.
  • Keep participant files up to date and organized.
  • Enforces applicable rules and regulations with the program participant and staff.
  • Handle behavior management involving program participants.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures as they pertain to recreation programs; recommend or initiate action necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure the safety of employees and participants.

Experience: A Bachelor's Degree (B.A./B.S.) in education, parks and recreation, or other related field is preferred; a minimum of 3-5 years experience working with children in a child care setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Previous experience in a supervisory role is desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults both in spoken and written form.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to assist participants in grades K-8 with daily homework.
  • Ability to facilitate enrichment and large group games and activities.
  • Ability to professionally interact with members of the public and Brownsburg Parks staff in a positive manner.
  • Ability to review, evaluate, and utilize a variety of reference and descriptive data and information.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently without routine supervision.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions during periods of high volume and under pressure from the public.
  • Ability to project a positive, professional image for the department through appropriate appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to provide guidance, assistance, and interpretation regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in planning, organizing, and implementing programs, events, and activities.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques; ability to organize and supervise part-time staff and contractual employees.
