Job Description

Aviation Advisor - SGS North America, Inc., Deer Park, Texas. Planning and conducting aviation audits and assessing operator safety for SGS Aviation clients. The audits and assessments for operator safety will be performed in accordance with SGS’s proprietary system of audits and assessments which have been carefully developed and honed for exceptional thoroughness and state of the art analysis methodologies; Reviewing airline safety and investigating incidents and accidents; Performing aviation studies and assessments as well as customized training courses and in-house aviation awareness workshops. These studies, assessments and training courses will be designed and conducted as to be consistent with the Company’s Health and Safety Manual and other proprietary well-established principles. Managing aviation projects for clients including exploration and production ventures and emergency evacuations; Providing technical and commercial aviation advice including specialist role flying (low level, survey, external loads). The technical commercial aviation advice is based on SGS internally developed standards in addition to all regulatory standards in place; Preparing written audits and project reports with recommendations for the conduct and continuous improvement of client aviation activities; Following up and resolving technical and functional issues raised during audits and compliance reviews. The remediation and recommendations for corrective actions will be made in accordance with SGS’ proprietary guidelines and the best practices as recognized by both international standards and SGS’ rigorous standards for excellence; and Performing technical inspections and specialized tests on aircraft landing facilities using dedicated tools and inspection techniques based on SGS standards and Industry practices developed internally as part of the aviation services provided by the company.

Qualifications

Must have a Bachelors degree in Aeronautical Administration or related field plus five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. Experience must include: Five (5) years of relevant experience in operational safety and technical internal and external audits of flight, safety, and maintenance operations; Five (5) years of relevant experience in the design of aviation standards and policies, aviation procurement and tenders, aviation contract advisories, and onsite aviation oversight and management; Rotor Wing Airline Transport Pilot and Fixed Wing Commercial Pilot license, plus three (3) years of experience conducting flight operations; Five (5) years of relevant experience as a safety manager, safety advisor, or aviation-safety related position; ISO 9000, 14000 certified Auditor with SMS (Safety Management System) accreditation, plus five (5) years of relevant experience conducting safety and technical audits of air operators; Active FSF BARS Certified Lead Auditor with one (1) year of experience managing aviation audits under the Basic Aviation Risk Standard of the Flight Safety Foundation; Five (5) years of relevant experience conducting helideck inspections and friction tests, inspection of airfields and helicopter landing sites, aircraft inspections, and special flying operations (low level, aerial/geophysical surveys, marine pilot transfer); Five (5) years of relevant experience developing customized aviation training and workshops; and Five (5) years of relevant experience performing airline risk assessment and accident and incident investigations. Travel required: 40% of time domestic and 30% of time international.
