Position Summary

The Ricks Center for Gifted Children at the University of Denver, is an exemplary program designed for gifted children. We provide nationally recognized gifted education to approximately 250 students aged three through eighth grade with exceptional, differentiated abilities and learning needs. Our mission is to provide a dynamic and challenging educational environment that anticipates and responds to gifted children's individual, intellectual, social, emotional, physical, aesthetic, and cognitive needs. We seek qualified individuals to lead and assist with our summer programming at Ricks Center for Gifted Children. We are looking for energetic people willing to work full-time and part-time shifts.

This is a non-benefited position to be at most 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Camp Director in day-to-day camp logistics and act in the Camp Director's capacity as needed
  • Assist the Camp Counselor Team in day-to-day camp logistics and act in their place as needed
  • Assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of summer camp programs, including weekly camp sessions, check-in/out, daily routines, daily and weekly schedules, and all camp procedures
  • Effectively oversee and manage appropriate budgets, payroll, and camp inventory.
  • Distribution of any needed supplies during the camp season
  • Be always available on the radio while on site
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information regarding business affairs, campers, or staff members
  • Interact daily with campers and work to provide a safe and consistent environment

Required Qualifications

  • Education classes or experience leading camps, youth programs, recreation, or working with children in a related field.
  • Upon hire, complete First Aid and CPR certification or provide a copy of the current certification.
  • Must be able to work as a team member and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field
  • Valid teaching degree and license, or working toward a teaching degree/license

Physical Activities

Must be physically able to lead and participate in camp activities, including hiking, swimming, team-building initiatives, physical games, lifting, and sports / physical activities.

Work Schedule

The duration of this position is from June 1, 2023 to August 15, 2023.

Hourly Range

The hourly range for this position is $26.00-$28.00.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range representing its reasonable faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
