Job Description
This is a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Africana Studies. The ideal candidate is an African-centered scholar who will be able to teach sections of Introduction to Africana Studies, with focus on Nile Valley Civilizations and the long African/Black social justice origins and development of the discipline, including the Black Power, African-centered, and Africana Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies movements. The Africana Studies program is especially interested in candidates who can also teach upper-level courses in Classical African Civilization/African historiography and/or African/Africana political thought and social justice. The applicant should demonstrate a sound knowledge of African-centered theoretical, epistemological, and methodological perspectives; experience in online and on ground course development and
delivery; and a commitment to teach first generation and underrepresented student populations.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Africana/Black Studies with a concentration in Classical African Civilization/African History or African/Black political thought or a Ph.D. in a related discipline (African Studies, Political Science) with at least 18 graduate hours of coursework in Africana Studies or an Africana Studies related subject area.
