The University of Chicago Medicine is designated as a Level 1 Adult Trauma Center. The hospital is prepared to handle the most seriously injured trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. UCM nurses truly work at the Forefront of Medicine - providing the best and most advanced care available. Here, collaboration is the key to high-quality patient care and our nurses work side-by-side with internationally recognized physicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals.

The Assistant Patient Care Manager (APCM) will be responsible and accountable for over-seeing the operations and patient flow of a designated Care Center on her/his respective shift. Duties include completing daily or shift specific quality audits and Managing for Daily Improvement (MDI) boards, facilitate daily huddles with staff, and directing delivery of quality, patient-centered care in a financially responsible manner. This is in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager (PCM). In the absence of the PCM, the APCM assumes responsibility for the unit. APCM supports PCM with 24/7 coverage of the unit.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills are needed to maintain an open network of communication among staff members, care center and sector leadership, and other health care professionals and departments. Specialty certifications preferred.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years of ICU nursing experience
  • BLS

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years Nursing Experience
  • ACLS
  • Chemotherapy Certification
  • RN experience in a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
  • Charge Nurse Experience
  • 2 years of Nursing management/Leadership experience
