University of Memphis Memphis, TN

Campus Location Main Campus (Memphis, TN) Position Number 001846 Category Full-Time Faculty Department Communication Sciences and Disorders Position Summary
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Memphis is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in Speech-Language Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Expected start date is August 15, 2023, with earlier start dates possible.

Applicants should be prepared to teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, pursue programmatic research, interact with the clinical and academic programs of the School, advise students, and provide service to the School and University. Applicants must have earned a PhD or other research doctorate by the start date, and clinical certification and eligibility for state licensure in SLP are preferred. Candidates with a record of publications and success or likelihood of success in obtaining extramural funding commensurate with rank will be strongly preferred.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in developmental language or speech sciences involving applications to pediatric populations with complex communication and/or medical needs. Candidates with interests in related areas, e.g., phonology, neurological bases, multiculturalism, autism, and literacy will be especially competitive, and we also seek new modes and technologies of research and PhD student training. Because our School and University have established areas of strength in cognitive and neurological sciences and development of speech and language, candidates prepared to build on these strengths may especially thrive in our setting. Our School is expanding its interprofessional training opportunities, the University provides support for development of online programs, and we especially welcome candidates with diverse lived experiences to join our multicultural community.

Our historically top-ranked program offers graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, and research-oriented PhDs in SLP, audiology, and neuroscience. We are also establishing a presence in undergraduate education with an emphasis on American Sign Language. The School is housed in a new building with state-of-the-art teaching, research, and clinical facilities. Many collaborative opportunities exist within the School and with other units in the University, including strong affiliations with the Institute for Intelligent Systems which focuses on interdisciplinary cognitive science, artificial intelligence, developmental, and educational research (see www.memphis.edu/iis/). We also have strong links to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare system, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and other local clinical, educational, and medical communities.

The University of Memphis is an EE/AA employer, and the School is committed to growing a diverse student body, faculty, and staff to guarantee inclusion of ideas, practices, and expertise across the breadth and depth of the human experience (see https://www.memphis.edu/csd/diversity/deipurpose.php . Consistent with this mission, we seek to recruit, develop, and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool who will increase diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, mentoring, and/or lived experience.

We will begin reviewing applications December 16, 2022, and will continue to review applications until the position is filled. For questions, contact search committee chair Eugene H. Buder at ehbuder@memphis.edu or at (901) 678-5873.
