Job Summary

The job provides professional support and solves straightforward problems in a broad range of operational business activities in the creation of plans for events programming, marketing, and logistics. With guidance from others, monitors the execution of events.
Responsibilities
  • The Assistant Director will have primary responsibility as a liaison to the pediatric fundraising team and the Comer Development Board (CBD), a volunteer board that seeks to raise awareness and generate support for Comer Children’s Hospital and the Department of Pediatrics.
  • The Assistant Director contributes to fundraising efforts by planning and expertly executing two main fundraising events in partnership with the pediatric fundraising team and the CDB, the Comer Children’s Hospital 5K Race and the Bright Night Benefit.
  • In addition to these two main events, the Assistant Director may be asked to plan and execute a broad range of other cultivation and recognition events for donors and prospective donors. Together, the Event Team conceives, plans, coordinates, and implements of 50-75 events annually.
  • The Assistant Director prepares event briefings for the staff of Medical Center CEO/Dean. They assist fundraisers in completing their briefings by supplying specific event details.
  • The Assistant Director identifies, qualifies, and recommends a final selection of vendors for all facets of events (e.g., hotels, florists, caterers, printers, etc.). They are responsible for negotiating the most favorable terms and operating within budget.
  • The Assistant Director manages all communications for the pediatric fundraising events including, but not limited to, developing/writing website copy, developing copy for digital marketing campaigns, partnering with the Marketing/Communications (MarComm) team to develop a social media strategy and to develop event branded elements such as signage, programs, sponsorship materials, etc.
  • In addition, they draft program communications for other events and programs including, but not limited to, invitations, event briefings, guest profiles, acknowledgement, event follow-up communications, and event speaker biographies. They are also responsible for working with the MarComm team to produce event invitations and communications pieces.
  • The Assistant Director is a key contributor in preparing the annual event budget for CDB events. They manages expenditure, and monitor and reconcile accounts; prepares event budgets, including detailed expense and revenue projections.
  • Executes day-to-day event logistics, and other moderately complex assignments with some guidance from others.
  • Assists with research, including vendor selection and contract negotiation. Keeps track of all expenses, prepares reports on costs, using existing procedures to solve moderately complex problems as they arise.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of full-time professional experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, management or a related service- oriented field.
  • Development experience.

  • Experience working in a large hierarchical organization.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
