    Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

    What We Need:
    The Assistant Director of EL PreK – 12 is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the EL/Bilingual Parent Education Program. The Assistant Director of EL PreK – 12 will report to the Director of English Learners.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All Functions are under the Director of the EL Director

    • Assist in leading the PreK – 12 administrative and teaching staff in managing the requirements and challenges of ongoing change and instructional improvements for all EL students.
    • Support principals in implementing the EL program, initiatives, and requirements in each building.
    • Work in collaboration with district leadership to plan and lead administrative leadership meetings, principals leadership meetings related to EL and teacher leaders meetings.
    • Serves as EL Curriculum and assessment specialist.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of the annual budget for all the EL programs.
    • Plan and direct procedures related to the acquisition of materials and equipment.
    • Plan and direct instructional program evaluations.
    • Recommend and implement curriculum improvements.
    • Assist and/or coordinate district procedures for communicating student learning (report cards, progress reports, and cumulative records)
    • Assure that policies, rules, regulation, and contractual requirements are followed in areas of designated responsibility.
    • Assure district compliance with state and federal mandates related to bilingual.
    • Conduct presentations to the Board of Education as directed by the Director of EL of relevance to the Bilingual program.
    • Work closely with the newcomer and EL programs to evaluate the program requirements, order material and help evaluate staff.
    • Assist staff in interpreting data and in using data to inform decisions.
    • Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development and training programs for EL programs.
    • Responsible to assist in supervising parent events included Parent University for EL parents and BPAC activities.
    • Assist in completing reports necessary for the EL Director to complete the TBE/TPI and LIPLEPS grant applications.
    • Provides presentations for parents
    • Assist in developing and monitoring and implementation of Summer School.
    • Assumes any other duties as may from time to time be delegated by the Director of EL as supervisor and the supervisor may make any adjustment in the scope of responsibilities and outlined above which will be in the interest of the school district.

    • Desktop publishing skills a plus

    Qualifications:

    • Must hold Illinois Professional Educators License with Administrative Endorsement
    • A minimum of five (5) years of recent successful experience as a school and/or district level administrators.
    • Completion of requirements for a Master’s degree in Linguistic, Bilingual Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or Education Administration & Supervision
    • Current Illinois certification to evaluate Teachers, Administrators, and Principals.
    • Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels;
    • Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically;
    • Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility;
    • Passion to embrace the goals of raising achievement for all students and closing achievement gaps;
    • Demonstrated ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret data from multiple sources and to facilitate data-driven decision-making and problem-solving.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication, and listening skills.
    • Ability to successfully work in a collaborative environment with administrators, teachers, parents, and outside agencies.
    • Commitment to maintaining a high level of competence in the field of education and remaining current in issues related to areas of responsibility.
    • High level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic;
    • Thorough knowledge of and ability to research Federal, State, and district laws, policies, and procedures-.
    • Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel.
    • Bilingual, English and Spanish preferred.
