Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP Corp. Accounting/ Controller, the Asst. Controller will oversee month-end
closing, corporate reporting, tax templates update, and audit support. Leading a team of 5 to 6
associates, the Asst. Controller will build a strong team, a winning culture, and execute monthly,
timely, accurate closing and financial reporting activities—the Asst. Controller will interface with
internal (functional leaders) and external clients (boards and treasures) on all transactional and
financial accounting and reporting-related matters, including auditors, and partner with our
management teams to deliver exceptional service.
The Asst. Controller will also play a crucial role in supporting corporate accounting initiatives,
system enhancements, migrations, and transactional process consolidation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Asst. Controller must possess a high degree of accountability, a sense of urgency,
commitment, and ownership. The Asst. Controller will prioritize tasks to set action plans to achieve
process improvements. This position will collaborate with teams to develop and implement best
practice policies and procedures to meet set objectives.
This is not a traditional controller role limited to month end closing. The successful candidate will
be passionate about gaining efficiency through process change while creating a positive team
environment to recruit, develop and retain talent.
The Asst. Controller must have excellent communication skills to partner with operations, interact
with clients and be a knowledge leader in financial accounting, systems, and the property
management industry. Sound business understanding and presenting practical solutions is a

Management
- Maintain and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
- Manage market-level team members
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including recommendations related
- Oversee the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, especially their controls
Transactions
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
- Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
- Ensure that accounts receivable are reflective of credits, and fee adjustments, collected
- Overall look at payroll processing, ensure accuracy and recording
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
- Ensure all BS schedules are up to date and accurate and account reconciliations are
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
- Issue timely and complete financial statements (Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly), complete
- Coordinate the preparation of the corporate
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
- Provide financial analyses as needed, in particular for pricing decisions, and contract
Compliance
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax fillings
- Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards
- Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional, and

- Oversee the accounting operations of the portfolio and its subsidiaries, especially their

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (master's preferred)
- At least 10+ years of experience in corp. accounting/ financial reporting
- Month-end closing experience with a large multi-entity organization, Bank reconciliations,
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Experience in Jenark/ Yardi/ Dynamics GP/ Quick Books/ CINC/ Oracle/ SAP
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Excel, modeling, Experience in handling
- Other systems experience ClickPay, Concur, ADP, AvidXchange
- Experience in Banking platforms and reporting
- Excellent organizational skills and project management
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, A team player
- Advanced written communication skills, not afraid to roll up your sleeves to get the job
